EIACP (PC Hub) Asam observed the International Tiger Day, observed in association with Aaranyak, on 29th July, 2026 Manas Maozigendri Ecotourism Society (MMES), Lwkhibazar, Khamardwisa, near Manas National Park, Baksa district, Assam, on the theme "Securing the Future of Tigers with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities at the Heart".

The programme aimed to raise awareness about the ecological significance of tigers, foster a sense of stewardship among local communities, and encourage greater public participation in conserving wildlife and their habitats. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 130 people from nearby villages, including students, community members, village leaders, conservation volunteers, and representatives from various institutions.

The programme was graced by Shri Bomol Basumatary, Headmaster of Khamardwisa M.E. School, as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Moidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge, Simla Outpost; Shri Yuvraj Singh Digra, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Manas National Park; Shri Mrinal Jyoti Daimary, Range Forest Officer, Bhuyanpara Range, Manas National Park; Shri Hemen Nath,S.I SSB;Smt.Rinu Daimary, VCDC Chairperson; Shri Argeng Basumatary, ABSU NK Unit Secretary; Shri Satish Das, President of the Eco-Development Committee (EDC); Shri Parmadhar Basumatary, Gaonbura of Daodhara; and Shri Gokul Basumatary, Gaonbura of Gorumara.

World Population Day 2026 was observed by EIACP PC Hub Assam on July 11, 2026. The global human population reached approximately 8.3 billion. The official United Nations theme for the 2026 observance was “Realising the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future,” which focused on empowering youth to navigate choices about relationships and family life.

World Snake Day is celebrated globally every year on July 16 to raise awareness about the ecological importance of snakes, dispel common myths, and promote their conservation. Snakes play a critical role in maintaining ecosystem balance and controlling pest populations. India, in particular, is home to over 300 snake species, ranging from the non-venomous Indian Rock Python to the King Cobra, the world's largest venomous snake found in the Western Ghats and Northeast India. Globally, there are more than 3,900 species of snakes, but the vast majority are harmless to humans. Only about 15% of known species pose any real threat. Despite this, many species are vulnerable to habitat destruction, climate change, and poaching.

An awareness programme under the Mission LiFE theme “Adopt Healthy Lifestyle” was organized by the EIACP (PC Hub), Assam at Biswanath College for the month of May 2026. The programme aimed to promote healthy lifestyle practices among students and encourage environmentally responsible behaviour in line with the objectives of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

As part of the programme, a plantation drive was conducted within the college campus to promote environmental stewardship and enhance green cover. Students, teachers, and representatives of the organizing institution actively participated in the plantation activity, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable living.

An awareness session was subsequently held, where Dr. Gitartha Kaushik, Faculty Member of Rangapara College, attended as the Resource Person. In his address, Dr. Kaushik highlighted the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle practices, maintaining physical and mental well-being, and embracing environmentally sustainable habits in daily life. He also emphasized the role of young people in promoting a healthier and greener future.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and faculty members of Biswanath College. The interactive session encouraged meaningful discussions on health, sustainability, and responsible lifestyle choices.

The awareness programme successfully fulfilled its objective of sensitizing participants to the significance of healthy living and environmental responsibility, thereby contributing to the broader goals of Mission LiFE.

The State-Level celebration of World Environment Day 2026 was jointly organised by EIACP (PC) Hub, Assam; EEP-Assam; Climate Cell, ASTEC; Assam Bio-Resource Centre (ABRC) under Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC); and Science City Guwahati on 5 June 2026 at Science City Guwahati premises.

The day-long programme commenced with a plantation drive within the Science City Guwahati complex, symbolizing the commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.

A major highlight of the celebration was the State-Level Eco Hackathon, which provided a platform for young innovators to present creative and sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. District-level winners from 30 districts of Assam participated in the competition and showcased their innovative ideas and models focusing on sustainability, resource conservation, waste management, climate action, and environmental protection.

To promote environmental awareness and encourage active participation among students, an Art Competition and a Quiz Competition were also organised as part of the celebrations. These events witnessed enthusiastic participation and helped foster environmental consciousness among the younger generation.

The valedictory session was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Smt. Rituparna Thakuria, ACS, Joint Secretary, Science & Technology Department, Government of Assam; Dr. Jaideep Baruah, Director, ASTEC and CEO, Science City Guwahati; and Shri Narayan Mahanta, IFS (Retd.), Environment and Forest Department, Govt. of Assam, who delivered the keynote address. The speakers highlighted the importance of collective action, environmental stewardship, and sustainable lifestyles in addressing contemporary environmental challenges.

On the occasion, awards were presented to the winners of the State-Level Eco Hackathon and the State-Level Online Photography Competition conducted on the occasion of International Day of Biodiversity. In recognition of exemplary efforts towards environmental conservation and awareness, the Best School Eco Club Award, Best College Eco Club Award, Best District EEP Nodal Agency Award, and the Best Eco Club Compendium Award were also conferred.

As a token of appreciation and to promote environmental responsibility, all participants were presented with a sapling and a seed box, encouraging them to contribute actively to greening initiatives and biodiversity conservation.

The programme concluded successfully with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices for a greener and more resilient future.
