Our team attended the Pre-Virtual Round for ESVC 2017 from 13th-15th October held at Arya Institute of Engineering and IT, Jaipur. The three day workshop proved to be very informative and provided us with insights into the building of an electric solar vehicle and why it is the future of our country. The workshop ended with a test where we stood 12th among 190 teams all over the country.
All in all, a great kickstart to the season!

Our team successfully organised it's first campaign of this season on "Solar Energy - The Future of India" at Innerve, the technical fest of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University. Our team interacted with the young, aspiring engineers present there and told them about our ideas related to solar energy and the need to adopt the same at the earliest. We also distributed brochures containing information about the various advantages of solar energy.
All in all, the two days proved to be a very enriching and enlightening experience for our team!

At the base of the steering column there is a small pinion (gear wheel) inside a housing. Its teeth mesh with a straight row of teeth on a rack - a long transverse bar.

Turning the pinion makes the rack move from side to side. The ends of the rack are coupled to the road wheels by track rods.

This system is simple, with few moving parts to become worn or displaced, so its action is precise.

Man Travels 12 Nations in a Solar-Powered Auto!
Naveen Rabelli, an electronic engineer from the University of Hyderabad (UoH), an automotive engineer by profession and a "traveller by heart", pulled into London on September 16 last year, after travelling through India, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Swiss, France and the United Kingdom, on a solar-powered auto christened ‘Tejas’.
The final version of the auto even had an on board computer and a driver display system, to monitor the performance of the vehicle.

These dishes concentrate sunlight on receivers that contain water, generating steam that is piped down to the kitchen for cooking 50,000 meals per day.

THE P14 TEASE - McLaren's Next Generation Super Series at Geneva International Motor Show!

Building upon the success of the last Super Series; which encompassed the 12C, 650S, and 675LT, McLaren is building the new car on a brand new carbon fiber monocoque, called the Monocage II. The carbon fiber passenger cell appears to adopt much of the same architecture found on the Monocage I used in the P1 hybrid hypercar.

Yet, using a new engineering method, the ultra-lightweight carbon fiber structure is more rigid than the previous 650S, but it weighs 40 pounds less. McLaren unfortunately didn't say how it stacked up to the P1's chassis, however, that omission might mean that it's on par with the hypercar. But even compared to its competitors like the Ferrari 488 GTB and Lamborghini Huracan, the new McLaren chassis is the lightest in its class.

Now, this is where things get really trippy. MIT researcher Daniel Nocera has developed what he calls an Artificial Leaf, a potentially groundbreaking energy storage technology that successfully mimics nature.
In a photosynthesis-like process, the ‘leaf’ uses solar energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The emitted gases could then be stored in a fuel cell, making off-grid living beyond feasible. Not only that, but Nocera says that his leaf’s efficiency outperforms nature by a factor of 10.
(Note: while it’s called an ‘artificial leaf’, it’s not actually a leaf.)

World's first solar road opened in the Netherlands!
The world’s first solar bike path has been installed in the Netherlands, with further plans to embed solar panels into the country’s 140,000 km of road to power everything from traffic lights to electric cars.
SolaRoad, as the first-of-its-kind path is known, opened in November 2014 in Krommenie, a village northwest of the Dutch city of Amsterdam.
The concrete path is studded with ordinary silicon solar panels that are protected by a centimeter-thick layer of safety glass. The transparent, skid-resistant glass can support bicycles and vehicles as well as pedestrian traffic. Electricity generated by the panels is fed into the electricity grid.

This new year gear up for the new FERRARI GTC4Lusso!!! 👻👻
Ferrari GTC4Lusso will make its India debut in 2017. Expect prices to hover around the Rs 5 crore mark. The car is an updated version of the Ferrari FF and has various changes to show. Mechanical duties are carried out by a 6.2-litre V12 engine, churning out a power of 690PS and 697Nm of torque. The figures enable the four-seater Ferrari to do a 0-100kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 335kmph!

In automobiles, a double wishbone suspension is an independent suspension design using two (occasionally parallel) wishbone-shaped arms to locate the wheel. Each wishbone or arm has two mounting points to the chassis and one joint at the knuckle. The shock absorber and coil spring mount to the wishbones to control vertical movement. Double wishbone designs allow the engineer to carefully control the motion of the wheel throughout suspension travel, controlling such parameters as camber angle, caster angle, toe pattern, roll center height, scrub radius, scuff and more.

A little something about hydraulic brakes today-
Imagine how much force you need to stop a fast-moving car. Simply pressing with your foot would not generate enough force to apply all four brakes hard enough to bring you quickly to a stop. That's why brakes use hydraulics: a system of fluid-filled pipes that can multiply force and transmit it easily from one place to another.

When you press on the brake pedal, your foot moves a lever that forces a piston into a long, narrow cylinder filled with hydraulic fluid. As the piston plunges into the cylinder, it squirts hydraulic fluid out through a long and narrow pipe at the end (much like squirting a syringe). The narrow pipe feeds into much wider cylinders positioned next to the car's four brakes. Because the cylinders near the brakes are much wider than the one near the brake pedal, the force you originally applied is multiplied greatly, clamping the brakes hard to the wheels.

That’s the big picture. For now, Heliatek is focusing on replacing your sun roof with an organic solar cell window treatment, and the company has just announced a major step forward in the efficiency of its organic solar cells.

Organic solar cells are far less efficient than their silicon cousins, but they are also far less expensive. They are also flexible and transparent (or semi-transparent), so they can be used over a huge range of applications including buildings and yes, cars.

Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg set out and accomplished something that still seems impossible today: the First Round-The-World Solar Flight, powered only by the sun, with no fuel or polluting emissions.

In 2015 started the attempt of the First Round-The-World Solar Flight, from Abu Dhabi to Hawaii, already achieving the longest solo solar flight ever achieved in aviation history. In 2016, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg completed the first circumnavigation of the globe with no fuel. With their solar aircraft, a flying laboratory full of clean technologies, they flew 40,000 km to promote the use of renewable energies and energy efficiency on the ground, for a better quality of life.
