The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed the Reusable Launch Vehicle's third and final self-regulated landing test. The testing took place at the Challakere Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Chitradurga, Karnataka. An Air Force Chinook helicopter lifted the RLV 'Pushpak' to a height of 4.5 kilometers before releasing it. Pushpak landed with a speed of 320 km/h. After landing, the speed was reduced to 100 km/h with a brake parachute. The vehicle was then stopped by applying the landing gear brakes. The high-speed landing conditions were replicated when the launch vehicle returned from space. The third test mission is named 'RLV-LEX-03'.

The First Selfie Man of India from Tripura

In a remarkable historical highlight, Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya of Tripura, an ardent photography enthusiast, is celebrated as the first Indian monarch to host an annual photographic exhibition at his palace. His passion for photography was shared by his wife, Maharani Khuman Chanu Manmohini Devi, who also engaged in the art as an amateur photographer.

In 1880, Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya achieved a significant milestone by capturing what is believed to be India’s first 'selfie'. Utilizing a black lever attached to a triggering device and a long wire shutter control, he immortalized a moment that resonates through history, showcasing the innovative spirit and personal touch of the royal couple.

Namak India vs Uppu India. While the older Sanskrit word "Lavana" still appears in a lot of places (as Lona, Luna, Lun, Nun etc) even in Tamil literature (இலவணம்) the more modern Sanskrit word Namaka (shared with Persian too) leads the show, possibly after the Mughal rule.

Dedicated efforts from the Indian Navy and Andaman & Nicobar Command have resulted in the installation of new AFLS (Airfield Ground Lighting Systems), PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator), and Cat II Approach Lighting System at INS Utkrosh. This means Port Blair airport is now a Precision Instrument Runway, enabling night landings and operations in poor visibility, making it an All weather airfield.

Hadi Rani the queen of Rajasthan, India!

Her story is highly inspirational. She proved that one does not need to go to the battlefield to prove their patriotism and love towards their motherland.

She was the daughter of Hada chauhan rajput, married to Chundawat chieftain of Salumbar, Mewar, Rajasthan. The day after the wedding, Maharana raj singh (1653–1680) called her husband to join the war against Aurangzeb who was trying to invade his land.

Primarily Chundawat chieftain was hesitant to go for war as he got married just a day before. He wanted to spend his time with his loving wife but here comes the gripping part of the story.

The newly wed Rani encouraged him to go to the battle as it was his duty to protect motherland from invaders. He agreed with her.

On the way to the battlefield, he ordered one of his servants to go to Rani and asks for souvenir of her so that he could take it to the battlefield with him.

She was surprised by his behaviour. She thought of herself as a obstacle for her husband which is stopping him from performing his duty towards Mewar.

She was an extraordinary woman. She cut off her head and asked servent put it on a plate and present it to her husband as memento.

The chieftain was devastated after receiving this. He was proud of her.He didn't take it as a weakness instead he took it as strength for him.

He tied his wife head around his neck and went to the battlefield proudly. There he fought ferociously and made Aurangzeb's forces to flee from his area cowardly.

After victory, he found no reason to be alive .He kneeled down on his knees and cut his neck himself. He lost the desire to live.

This was the story of Hadi Rani. She set an example of how far a person could go in the love of his motherland.

She was a very brave woman indeed. Her story is inspirational. We Indians must be proud of her.

Astra MkII: Understanding Range Limitations and Factors Affecting Air-to-Air Missile Performance

Recent discussions about the potential range reduction of India's Astra MkII air-to-air missile from 160km to 130km highlight a critical point: the advertised range of a missile is not a fixed endpoint. A missile's range is a measure of capability and can vary significantly depending on a wide range of operational factors.

Factors Affecting Air-to-Air Missile Range

Launch Altitude: Launching a missile from a higher altitude reduces atmospheric drag thanks to thinner air, allowing it to travel farther. Fighter aircraft strategically climbing prior to launch give their missiles a range advantage.

Target Characteristics: A larger, less maneuverable target like a bomber or an aerial refueler presents an easier profile for a missile to intercept at longer distances. Conversely, engaging a highly agile fighter jet in evasive maneuvers will naturally reduce a missile's effective range.

Operational Modes: Some air-to-air missiles offer different engagement modes. A mode designed for high-speed, close-quarters dogfights might prioritize maneuverability at the expense of some range compared to a mode optimized for long-distance interceptions.

Environmental Conditions: Factors such as wind speed, wind direction, and temperature can also influence how far a missile will travel.
Beyond the Advertised Range

The 130km figure reported for Astra MkII might represent one specific launch scenario. Under different, more optimal conditions, the missile may well exceed this figure.

It's also important to remember that the true effectiveness of an air-to-air missile is not defined solely by its range. A missile's seeker technology (how it tracks a target), its lock-on range (the distance at which it can acquire a target), and its maneuverability all play a vital role in its combat performance. Even with a potentially reduced range, the Astra MkII's technological advancements could make it a highly capable asset for the Indian Air Force.

Contextualizing Air-to-Air Missile Performance
The ongoing development and testing of missiles like the Astra MkII are part of a continual technological arms race. It's essential to understand that capabilities evolve, and what is considered cutting-edge today will meet and exceed those standards in the future.

Looking Ahead: Official Data is Key
To gain a definitive understanding of the Astra MkII's range capabilities, we'll need official data from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Until then, it's wise to focus on the interplay between range and other critical factors contributing to an air-to-air missile's overall effectiveness.
