ICID Annual Report
The Annual Report provides a rundown of all the activities conducted by ICID during the year 2018-19 and highlights the milestones achieved so far. However, it should be noted that the road ahead has many hurdles such as lack of human, financial and physical resources that we must pledge to overcome together and I am confident that ‘we can’ and ‘we will’.

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Ragab Ragab, President ICID & Fellow Principal Hydrologist & Water Resources Management Specialist, UK Centre for Hydrology (UK CEH)
The continuous increase in world population requires a parallel increase in food production. This represent a formidable challenge as the land and water resources are limited. Better and efficient management of water, land and crops is the key to meet such challenge. The webinar will attempt to address a number of approaches and cover the following aspects:
Increasing water supplies (rainfall harvesting & use of non-conventional water resources)
Suitable and more water use efficient irrigation systems and strategies.
Suitable crops including less water consuming and non-conventional crops.
Suitable land management to save water (conservation tillage, mulching, precision farming…)
Water saving through the accurate estimation of crop irrigation requirement
Use of models as management tools to save water and assess the impact of climate change on irrigation requirement, growth season length and yield.

BRAZIL AT THE FOREFRONT OF CREATING VALUE OUT OF WATER 🌊
As we celebrate #WorldWaterDay2021 today on the theme of "Valuing Water," we highlight Brazil's consistent efforts and measures to manage and create social value from 12% of the world's freshwater it has.
With the successful implementation of various projects like Aquapolo for water reuse, Water Producer Program to control water erosion, Freshwater Program for installing desalination plants in water scare regions and the Cisterns Program for large-scale mainstreaming of rainwater harvesting which received the Future Policy Silver Award in 2017 by the World Future Council, in partnership with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, Brazil is widely recognized for using low-cost social technologies for transforming the lives of millions of people, particularly women, by valuing its water resources.

Addressing the water #gendergap? "It's not just about ensuring a balanced headcount at meetings. It's about changing perceptions & providing an institutional environment that enables women to shape the conversation" says Dr Anthi Brouma from GWP-Med, presenting activities of the #WACDEP-G programme at the 3rd African Young Water Professionals Forum. The Forum is led by African Regional Working Group (AFRWG) of International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and was hosted at the 3rd Cairo Water Week.
