Interactive webinar on World Water Day
World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater. This 2022, the focus is groundwater, an invisible resource with an impact visible everywhere.

EU decides new limits for POPs in waste
Persistent organic pollutants () are harmful chemicals globally regulated under the Stockholm Convention. In the EU, they are no longer used in new products but can still be found in waste from consumer products. To optimize the circular economy, where the waste will be increasingly used as a secondary raw material, limiting the presence of POP in waste is crucial to safeguard human health and the environment.
A provisional agreement to reduce the maximum limit values for POPs in waste has been framed by the European Parliament, the EU Council, and the EU Commission. The regulation will limit the presence of toxics like PFOA, Dioxins, Furans, PFHxS, HBCDD, PBDE, and SCCPs in recycled materials. In addition, review clauses were put in place for Dioxins, PFOA, PFHxS, HBCDD, and SCCP to lower the limit values in the next five years. The proposed regulation aims to bring the EU's legislation into line with its international commitments, particularly under the Stockholm Convention on POPs.

is taking steps towards managing solidwaste arising out of the rapid extension of the city. The waste is converted to high-yielding which is provided to the . Extending its footprint, is employing sustainable ways to address the issue of increased need of & office . The old & used stationery from ’s offices across is and therefore, . 's Paper Unit started in 2009. For one tonne of paper produced, it saves 17 , 7000 gallons of & 4077 kW hrs of . Till 2019, around 15000 trees were saved by this plant & it recycled 60% water used in the process. involves .
