Campaign for the rights of Homeless in Delhi Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan(AAA) is a campaign to address the problems of homeless people in Delhi. It has adopted a right based approach (drawing from the Constitution of India and UN conventions and covenants of which India is a signatory) and takes as its foundation the need to promote and protect the human rights of the homeless people.
AAA’s primary goal is the empowerment of the homeless and the strengthening of their capacity to fight for their own rights. AAA also seeks to increase the accountability of STATE and public institutions to ALL citizens.

Caretakers at shelters for homeless women in the city say their challenges go beyond providing basic amenities as the inmates need regular counselling and skill training
With temperatures in Delhi dipping to single-digit earlier this week — going as low as 3.6 degrees Celsius — the city's homeless have taken refuge in night shelters to survive the bone-chilling cold.
“I get tea twice a day, and hot meals to feast on. I can’t earn anymore, so what else would I need during the winter?” he said with a wry smile.
Sanjay Kumar, co-director at Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan, an organization that has been working towards the betterment of homeless people since 2000, said that 20% of Delhi’s homeless are vulnerable people, which include “women, senior citizens, mentally ill people, drug addicts, disabled individuals and children”.
Speaking of the shelter homes run by him, he added, “We are not just providing them shelter but also with vocational training and skill-building which has resulted in many of them getting jobs.”

Homeless persons with psychosocial disabilities constitute as one of the most marginalized sections of our society who endure several indignities and human rights violations.
In this context, the Mental Healthcare Act of 2017 specified rights of persons with mental illness with special emphasis to the homeless community. This enables protection to the ongoing violation and marginalization they face on a daily basis.
As an organization working for and at the intersections of homelessness and mental illness, we stand with MHCA 2017 and work towards safeguarding their rights towards better mental health.

World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day shares the same awareness week. Is it a coincidence? We think not!
Through the graphs we are trying to depict the common bi-directional relationship shared between them.
Both share a gray relationship, being contributing factors of each other. Working on homelessness can't be done without addressing mental health and vice - versa

The members of AAA, chiefly, the homeless people, social workers and college students associated with the organization executed the movement of "Clean India Drive" which started early morning on October 9th.
Our team cleared plastic products to protect the environment for a sustainable future. We covered the Roshanara tomb and garden situated in Shakti Nagar. We were also joined by RWA's, Civil defense, Archaeological Survey of India, students from Sarvodaya Vidyalaya and civilians walking in the park.
The event was a huge success! We heartedly thank all those who joined us in keeping our city clean 😊

Children experiencing homelessness are four times more likely to demonstrate poor growth and two times more likely to have learning impairments if they fall behind in school. This has an immediate impact on the child's social development and self-esteem. This makes educational interventions absolutely critical.

Training Homeless People
The Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan is a movement to solve Delhi's homelessness issues. We advocate the fundamental right of shelter, food, and clothes as human rights. We built AAA to make the lives of urban poor dignified and hopeful.

We have been committedly working towards our mission for the last 21 years to make our vision a reality!
Our Vision is to mobilize, empower and strengthen marginalized people to live their life with their rightful honor and dignity.
Today we organized a Health Check up camp along with a Plastic Segregation Workshop for Rag Pickers community of Delhi.
We ensured to additionally spread awareness about Covid and the measures that can be taken by the workers for their protection
It was a success with participation of more than 60 people. We are hopeful that the workshop would contribute towards a more sustainable and mindful environment
Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan in partnership with district central office organized a special vaccination camp to compact the deadly covid crisis.
The camp set up Motiya Khan, Paharganj Delhi, served to more than 150 homeless, ragpickers and the urban poor community of Delhi. This community is the most mobile and exposed to catching the virus, however due to accessibility barriers they are unable to get vaccinated.
We are grateful to this partnership and hope to continue protecting our marginalized communities against the virus! 🙌🏽
We ensure to celebrate every festival with our students with all our joy!
This Rakshabandhan we celebrated by holding an art session on making sustainable and eco-friendly rakhis in-house. Students displayed their creativity and made their own rakhis 😊
Wishing you all a very Happy Rakshabandhan 🌼✨🌼
The pandemic isn't over yet!
The impact of lockdown severely affected the livelihood of the low-income population- which has made basic things like food and shelter an unaffordable luxury for many.
We at Aashray have been distributing freshly cooked meals every single day. We spend time with the community in understanding their needs and challenges in order to constantly improve our on-ground interventions.
You too can support us by donating ration/ cooked meals/ funds 🤝
