Ningols United Progressive Initiative (NUPI-Delhi) has condemned the pre-dawn ‘terrorist’ bomb attack on January 5 on a civilian residence at Saiton Nganukon, Bishnupur district allegedly by the Chin-Kuki militant/ armed groups in which two Meetei civilians were severely injured.
As per a release by NUPI-Delhi, the targeting of unarmed civilians is a grave violation of human rights and the rule of law. NUPI, the women-only group based in Delhi, expressed deep alarm over the persistent absence of preventive measures and the ‘disturbing normalisation’ of terror. “The major concern of the attack is that it occurred near a deployment of central security forces.
This proximity raises serious questions regarding security complicity, possible institutional failure through omission, negligence, or wilful inaction; lack of deterrence, the audacity of armed groups to operate unchecked despite heavy militarisation and erosion of public trust, a sustained opacity from authorities that suggests terror attacks are being selectively ignored or strategically tolerated,” it claimed.
Alleging that the latest violence follows a recurring pattern aimed at sabotaging the fragile process of peace, NUPI-Delhi recalled that recently, Meetei internally displaced persons (IDPs) were targeted just one day after attempting to resettle in their original villages.
“These acts are viewed as a deliberate attempt to disrupt rehabilitation efforts and derail the roadmap to bring peace to the state,” it maintained.
