The Utthan Project

The Utthan Project "The Utthan Project" is an up and coming NGO, dealing with sanitation and hygiene enhancement in impoverished areas. WHY SANITATION AND HYGIENE?

"The Utthan Project" is a non-governmental organization, dealing with various social implications with special emphasis on sanitation and hygiene enhancement in impoverished areas. Going by the name, we aim to uplift (utthan) the quality of life and health of underprivileged people through workshop modules, door-to-door awareness, surveying of areas and raising money for the building, maintenance

and renovation of lavatories. Apart from these, we use the media of art, music, street plays, pamphlets, interviews, social media, online journals and fundraising for accomplishing our goals. VISION STATEMENT
The Utthan Project envisions a society where disparity in the lifestyles of the privileged and the underprivileged is negligible. OUR MISSION
The Utthan Project aims to utilize the immense potential of the youth to enhance the lifestyle conditions of the underprivileged in impoverished areas. As a result of a detailed survey of a local slum dwelling which included investigation via standardized questionnaires and observation tables, 10/10 households owned a mobile network, however only 1 household in the entire dwelling had a personal toilet- that too in nasty conditions. The evident scarcity of toilet facilities leads to people being subject to open defecation. This clearly highlights the gravity of the problem of sanitation in the slum settlements of Delhi. Moreover, since most of the slum dwellers do not get educated even upto grade 10, their knowledge on the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene practices is inadequate which can lead to serious medical repercussions.
