Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) is implementing the prestigious Assam Gas Cracker project, the first ever Petrochemical project in entire North East India. The project came as a part of the historic Assam Accord signed on 15th August, 1985 with the motive of overall socio-economic development of the region. It was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 18th

April, 2006. Subsequently a Joint Venture Company BCPL was incorporated on 08th January, 2007 as Central Public Sector Enterprise under the under the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Govt. The project is expected to generate scope for substantial investments in setting up of downstream plastic processing industries, thereby will generate both direct as well as indirect employment. GAIL (India) Limited is the main promoter having 70% of equity participation and the rest 30% is equally shared by Oil India Ltd (OIL), Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and Government of Assam. Dr. Manmohan Singh, Honourable Prime Minister of India laid the foundation stone of this project on 9th April, 2007. The mechanical completion of the project is expected by July 2013. The Complex is spread over 3000 Bighas of Land at Lepetkata, and situated at approximately 15 Kilometers away from the Tea City Dibrugarh. M/s Engineers India Limited is the Engineering and Project Management Consultant for the project. Gas Dehydration and Compressor facilities are established at Duliajan along with Gas Sweetening Unit and C2+ Recovery Section at Lakwa. The Feedstock for the project will be Natural Gas and Naphtha. OIL and ONGC will supply Natural Gas and Naphtha shall be supplied by NRL. The principal end products of the Complex will be High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density polyethylene (LLDPE) totaling 2, 20,000 Tonnes per Annum (TPA) and 60,000 TPA of Polypropylene (PP). The other products include Raw Pyrolysis Gasoline and Fuel oil. GAIL (India) Ltd., is the main promoter, under an equity arrangement of GAIL:70% , Oil India Ltd (OIL):10%, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL):10% and Assam Industrial Development Corporation (Government of Assam):10%. The project will produce 2.20 lakhs tonnes of ethylene. The principle end products will be Polypropylene (PP) 60,000 TPA and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) /Linear Low Density polyethylene (LLDPE) totaling 220,000 TPA. This project is expected to give rise to a substantial employment generation both direct as well as indirect, and will attract substantial investments in setting up of downstream plastic processing industries.

Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) observed International Women’s Day on 7th March 2026 at BCPL Guest House Barbaruah with the campaign theme “Give to Gain.” A series of meaningful programmes were organised to celebrate the spirit, strength and contributions of women.

To mark the occasion, Ms. Urmila Baruah, Managing Partner, The Human Network, was invited as the resource person to address the women employees of BCPL. In her engaging session, she highlighted the challenges faced by women in professional spaces and shared insights on navigating them effectively in the corporate world.

In a separate programme organised for the spouses of BCPL employees, Ms. Rekha Mordani, author and public speaker, graced the event as the resource person. She spoke about issues concerning women and encouraged participants to recognise their strength while balancing multiple roles in life.

The programme was also graced by Shri Pruthiviraj Dash, Director (Finance), BCPL, along with Shri Sitangshu Paul, Chief General Manager (O&M) and other senior officials of the company. Addressing the gathering, Shri Dash spoke about the immense contributions of women across diverse fields and acknowledged the valuable role played by women employees of BCPL, who continue to contribute alongside their male counterparts in the organisation’s growth. He also emphasised the need for society to move beyond stereotypical perceptions associated with women and support their aspirations.

Ms. Ruli Das Sen, General Manager (CS), BCPL, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the evolving role and responsibilities of women in today’s society.

As part of the celebrations, an awareness programme was organised for peripheral and support female staff where Dr. Aradhana Borthakur, Assistant Professor, CMS, Dibrugarh University, conducted an interactive session focusing on the various challenges faced by women and ways to manage them effectively.

Continuing the spirit of giving, women employees of BCPL also visited Asha Old Age Home, where they spent time with the elderly women residents, sharing warmth and companionship in a gesture of care and solidarity.

The celebrations reflected BCPL’s commitment to recognising the contributions of women and fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.

Shri Deepak Gupta today assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited.

With 35+ years of rich experience across the Oil & Gas sector, Shri Gupta has led large-scale projects, global procurement, operations, and technology-driven transformation. As Director (Projects), he led the ex*****on of major initiatives, including the expansion of Natural Gas & LPG pipelines, gas processing facilities, SCADA infrastructure, green energy projects, and O&M of GAIL’s 20,000+ km pipeline network, including the completion of the Dabhol Breakwater Project.

He has also contributed to strategic leadership across key JVs such as Talcher Fertilizers, OPaL, SEAGP, Green Gas Limited, and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited. Earlier, during his long tenure at Engineers India Limited, he delivered landmark global projects, including Dangote Refinery (Nigeria) and Mongolia’s first refinery.

A respected thought leader, Shri Gupta continues to champion innovation, digitization, and accelerated project ex*****on as institutional best practices.

Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) and Oilmax Energy Pvt. Ltd. (OEPL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 17.02.2026 as part of a strategic collaboration for the hooking up of Oilmax’s Tiphuk field gas with the BCPL Lakwa Plant. This collaboration will help maximize the efficient, sustainable and judicious utilization of natural gas resources in the region, further strengthening energy optimization and supporting regional industrial growth.
The MoU was signed by Shri Sitangshu Paul, CGM (O&M), BCPL and Shri Gautam Sinha, Advisor (Commercial), Oilmax, on behalf of their respective organizations, in the presence of Shri Pruthviraj Dash, Director (Finance), BCPL, along with other senior officials from both BCPL and Oilmax.

Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) successfully organised its 7th Annual Flower Show at BCPL Township Barbaruah, celebrating nature, creativity and vibrant community participation. The colourful event showcased the enthusiasm and artistic spirit of employees and their families.
The programme was graced by Shri Pranjal Changmai, Managing Director, BCPL along with his spouse Mrs. Mousumi Changmai, whose encouragement and support added special significance to the occasion.
The event was further honoured by the esteemed presence of Dr. Reep Hazarika former Managing Director of BCPL and present State Information Commissioner, Assam, accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Sunayana Hazarika.
Organised by the BCPL Staff Welfare Committee in association with the Sangini Ladies Club, the Flower Show featured an impressive display of home-grown flowering plants, vegetables, and culinary creations prepared by BCPL and GAIL employees and their spouses. The exhibits reflected remarkable dedication, patience, and creativity.
The judging panel comprised Dr. Alakananda Baruah, Associate Professor of Botany, DHSK College, Dibrugarh, who brought academic expertise in plant sciences, along with Ms. Shivangi Bordoloi, a professionally trained pastry chef, and Mr. Aniket Sinha, hospitality professional and co-founder of Roselle x Caravan, Dibrugarh. Their combined expertise ensured a fair, insightful, and well-rounded evaluation.

Shri Pranjal Changmai, Managing Director, BCPL, addressed the Assam State Session at India Energy Week, Goa today where he spoke on the “Gas Cracker Industry in Assam and the Investment Opportunities in its Auxiliary and Down-the-Line Sectors.” He highlighted the strategic role of the gas cracker project in strengthening Assam’s industrial ecosystem and its contribution to the growth of downstream industries such as plastics, packaging, and manufacturing.
