It gives me immense happiness and pride to congratulate our very own daughter of Sikkim, Ms. Gnersongmit Lepcha, on successfully scaling Mt. Everest as part of the ITBP Women’s Mt. Everest Expedition.
Coming from a humble background and belonging to the Lepcha community, her achievement is historic and deeply emotional for all of us. She has not only brought pride to her family, village, and community, but to the entire state of Sikkim. To know that she is the first Lepcha woman to climb Mount Everest makes this accomplishment even more special.
Daughter of Shri Phumba Lepcha and Smt. Kandhi Lepcha, Gnersongmit pursued her M.A. in Lepcha from Sikkim University before joining ITBP in 2022. From her first expedition to Mt. Nun in Ladakh to standing atop the highest peak in the world, her journey is a story of courage, sacrifice, discipline, and determination.
As someone who has always believed in the strength and potential of our tribal youth, especially those from remote villages, I feel especially proud today. With heartfelt thanks to ITBP for nurturing and giving exposure to talented young individuals like her, I hope more opportunities are created for our Sikkimese tribal youth so that many more such inspiring stories emerge in the years to come.
May Gnersongmit continue to shine and inspire generations of young people from our hills to dream beyond limits.
With blessings and best wishes always.
