Fruitful deliberations conducted today with all colleges on online admission system for coming session of Govt. Colleges. The meeting was chaired by Director, Higher education Kapil Meena, along with presence of officers from higher education, principals of colleges, faculty from admission cell and SIBIN group who are technical software developers. Guidelines will be issued accordingly in coming days incorporating modifications as per prevailing situation!

Sh. Kapil Meena, IAS took relieving today from the post of Director higher education, Education Dept. After his transfer to tourism dept. Officers and staff of HE directorate wished him good luck for his next assignment. It was a very cordial and encouraging working atmosphere during this short tenure of little over 5 months. Director thanked all his colleagues for a wonderful short tenure in which he got all possible assistance from the employees!

PRESS RELEASE

GOAL PROGRAMME – BE A PART OF A UNIQUE MISSION TO EMPOWER YOUTH FROM TRIBAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS INDIA, LAUNCHED BY MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS IN COLLABORATION WITH FACEBOOK AND SUPPORTED BY SOCIAL JUSTICE AND WELFARE DEPARTMENT, GOVERNMENT OF SIKKIM.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Facebook have launched a digitally enabled TRI mentorship Programme i.e. GOAL (Going Online as Leaders), which is a unique and influential initiative for Scheduled Tribe (ST) youth. The programmes aims to enable ST youth in remote areas to assimilate with the digital world and use digital platforms to expand their talents to serve the leading objectives of Digital India in reaching the disadvantaged talents of the tribal community. The moot idea of the initiative is to empower tribal youth by leveraging the power of digital technology and enable youths to become village- level digital young leaders for their communities, by providing mentorship on digital literacy, entrepreneurship and life skills.
The Programme aims to mentor 5000 youth from tribal communities with the help of 2500 expert mentors who will be leaders from industry, arts, politics, business etc. The selected Mentees will be given a smart phone with internet access for 1 year and study material in digital format. Each mentor will be assigned two mentees and mentor will connect and guide the mentee through online mechanism. The programme will run for 9 months where weekly sessions will be conducted for first 7 months, followed by an internship opportunity for two months in a reputed organisation based on skill set of mentees. A dedicated online portal (goal.tribal.gov.in) has been launched to apply under this programme and for any other important communication. All details regarding this programme is also available at GOAL portal.
The Tribal Research Institute (TRI) under the Social Justice & Welfare Department is generating awareness about the GOAL programme so, that every talent will get the opportunity under it. The programme is displayed in the website of the department www.sikkimsocialwelfare.gov.in and the State Government website https://sikkim.gov.in .The Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Ashram Schools, NGOs and local community, influencers will also be associated with the programme for dissemination of information.
• Arrangements have been made to provide hand holding to Tribal youth in filling up the form at the office of the Social Welfare Officer in the districts. Talented Tribal youth will also be recommended by the Secretary/Director. The Nodal Officer for the programme is the Administrative Officer, TRI.

The core areas of mentorship are:
1. Digital Literacy
• Basics of computers
• Social media
• Online safety and security
• Digital information and careers.

2. Life skills
• Thinking and managing
• Living and being
• Working and giving
• Relating and caring

3. Leadership and entrepreneurship
• Problem identification
• Problem solving
• Leadership qualities
• Strategic planning

The programme will be reached to the NGOs through RDD and schools/colleges through Education Department.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

The theme for World Yoga Day 2020 Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, International Yoga Day this year will be observed at home. "Due to the contagious nature of COVID-19, no mass gathering would be advisable this year.
Hence, this year it is encouraging people to practice yoga at their homes, with participation from the entire family.
