Congratulations IMC family 💙🫶💙
Governor K T Parnaik on Monday honoured Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Likha Nari Tadar with the prestigious 'Land of the Rising Sun' Medallion for Excellence for her contribution to strengthening civic services, sanitation and urban infrastructure in the state capital.
Presenting the award at Lok Bhavan, the governor commended Tadar and the IMC team for their efforts in making the Itanagar Capital Region cleaner, greener and more citizen-friendly.
Calling for a renewed push towards sustainable urban development, Parnaik urged the IMC to transform Itanagar into a clean, hygienic and sustainable tourism city. He proposed launching a 'Zero Litter Itanagar Mission' backed by strict enforcement, CCTV surveillance, spot fines, public awareness drives and citizen reporting mechanisms to curb littering.
The governor also stressed achieving 100% waste segregation at source, urging every household, institution, hotel, restaurant and market establishment to separate wet, dry and hazardous waste. He advocated eliminating single-use plastics and promoting bamboo, cane and other eco-friendly alternatives.
To improve the city's tourism appeal, Parnaik suggested developing clean corridors from Hollongi Airport to key destinations with public toilets, proper signage, landscaping, street lighting and efficient waste disposal systems.
He further emphasised community participation through Ward Cleanliness Committees, School Green Brigades, youth volunteers and self-help groups, saying collective action was essential to improving urban governance.
Expressing confidence that these initiatives would position Itanagar among the cleanest state capitals in the Northeast, the governor said cleaner surroundings would improve public health, enhance visitor experience and contribute to the vision of Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat@2047.
Mayor Nari briefed the governor on the IMC's ongoing initiatives to improve sanitation, waste management, civic amenities and urban infrastructure across the Capital Complex.
