Unity of effort works. Partnerships matter. Teamwork is key.
These are hard-won lessons Australia has learnt countering terrorism and violent extremism, and in Sydney this week, we joined our Quad partners – US, Japan and India – for a Quad Counter-Terrorism Tabletop Exercise.
This exercise brought together over 60 counter-terrorism experts and was an opportunity to share policy priorities and best practice, exchange information, develop an understanding of national capabilities and increase awareness of the impact of emerging technologies.
The terrorism threats facing our region are diverse, dynamic, globally connected. They require a sustained and collective response.
Quad partners will continue to leverage our combined counter-terrorism strengths to deliver tangible benefits and support our commitment to upholding a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, in which sovereignty is respected and countries are free to make their own choices.
Australia looks forward to advancing Quad counter-terrorism cooperation and hosting the Quad Leaders’ Summit in 2023.
