“They Were Fighting Death”: SDH Tangmarg Team Revives 22 Year Old Electrocution Victim
TANGMARG: Sometimes, words are simply not enough to describe what you witness inside an emergency room.
A 22 year old young man was brought to SDH Tangmarg after suffering a severe electric shock at his home. He was unconscious and had no palpable pulse. His condition was extremely critical.
I happened to be present there, and what I saw is something I will not forget easily.
The doctors and healthcare workers were literally fighting to bring the young man back to life.
Dr Syed Suhail and Dr Bilal Akbar, along with Rouf Ahmad, Firdous Ahmad, nursing staff and other members of the team, immediately started resuscitation efforts. CPR continued for a prolonged period as the team worked desperately to revive him.
There was exhaustion on their faces. Their hands were hurting from continuously performing chest compressions, but nobody stopped.
They kept going.
They knew the situation was critical, but they refused to give up on the young man.
The patient was subsequently referred and shifted for higher level care, with the medical team continuing to support him. Resuscitation efforts continued and Return of Spontaneous Circulation was eventually achieved.
The patient remained critically ill and required intensive care, but later reports of clinical improvement brought a sense of hope after what had been an incredibly difficult situation.
What I witnessed that day made me realise that sometimes the best work done by doctors happens quietly, away from cameras and applause.
We are often quick to criticise doctors and hospitals when something goes wrong. But when healthcare workers stand for hours, fight exhaustion and continue CPR on a patient who appears to have almost no chance, that effort also deserves to be recognised.
This was not just about medicine. It was about determination, teamwork and refusing to give up.
The emergency response was carried out under the supervision of Block Medical Officer Tangmarg, Dr Syed Idrees, whose coordination supported the team's efforts.
My heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr Syed Suhail, Dr Bilal Akbar, Rouf Ahmad, Firdous Ahmad and every member of the SDH Tangmarg team who played a role in this effort.
I saw their hands hurting.
I saw their exhaustion.
But I also saw them continue.
They were fighting death, and they simply did not let him go.
May the young man recover completely.
Sometimes, saving a life is not just about having the right equipment or treatment. It is also about having people who refuse to stop trying.
