To mark the historic occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, the Office of the 12-Nambu Sindrabung Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) organized a multi-faceted event today at the Village Administrative Centre. The day was highlighted by a Special Gram Sabha and a highly successful Mega Trade License Renewal Programme, aimed at bringing essential administrative services directly to the grassroots.

The event commenced at 10:00 AM in the distinguished presence of the Hon’ble Panchayat President, Panchayat Members, Assistant Director (PRI), Sub-Inspector (Police Dept.), Labour Inspector, Commercial Tax Inspector, and representatives from the State Bank of Sikkim (SBS), along with GPU staff and various line departments. The gathering served as a platform to honor the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act and discuss the roadmap for building a more vibrant and self-reliant GPU.

The highlight of the day was the Mega Trade License Renewal Programme. To encourage local entrepreneurship and ease of doing business, the GPU facilitated a streamlined renewal process with on-the-spot coordination between the Police, Labour, and Tax departments. The event concluded with the official distribution of Trade Licenses to successful applicants, marking a proactive step toward formalizing and strengthening the local economy.

Today marks a historic milestone in our nation’s journey toward decentralized governance. April 24th commemorates the 1992 enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, a landmark piece of legislation that granted constitutional status to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).

Yesterday, a high-level inspection was carried out by senior officials of the Rural Development Department (RDD) to review the progress of ongoing restoration works under 12-Nambu Sindrabung GPU. The visit was led by RDD Chairman Shri Narayan Khatiwada, accompanied by Secretary, Shri Anil Raj Rai and Principal Chief Engineer, Shri Sukbir S***a.

The team assessed the quality and progress of the 20-meter span bailey bridge over Eung Khola and the new protective wall being constructed at the Rimbik wash-out site.

Also present during the inspection were the Chief Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, and the Director cm ADC (Development) Gyalshing District.

The inspection team was further supported by the DE, AE & JE. Local representatives, including the Hon’ble Panchayat President, AD (PRI), and Panchayat Members of the GPU, were also in attendance along with the local public of the affected wards.

The officials reviewed the restoration work on-site, emphasizing the need for timely completion and the maintenance of high-quality standards, particularly for critical infrastructure like the bailey bridge. The primary objective of the visit was to ensure that vital connectivity in the region is restored efficiently for the benefit of the local residents and essential services.

Following the official mandates of the Census Act 1948 and the delegated authority of the State Government of Sikkim, the Houselisting and Housing Census 2027 has officially launched today within the 12-Nambu Sindrabung GPU.

Under the direct oversight of the Supervisor, trained enumerators for every ward have begun field operations to record essential housing data required for national planning. Residents are reminded that the accurate collection of this information is a lawful requirement essential for the state’s developmental framework.

The local administration ensures that all data collected remains strictly confidential and urges every household in the 12-Nambu Sindrabung area to provide the necessary assistance to field staff to ensure the successful completion of this national undertaking.

The 12-Nambu Sindrabung Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) successfully conducted a Social Audit Public Hearing (Jan Sunwai) for the financial year 2025-2026 on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

This session served as a vital platform for community engagement, aiming to ensure transparency and rigorously evaluate the progress of the MGNREGA Central Plan within the jurisdiction.

During the hearing, the GPU presented detailed accounts of the various developmental projects undertaken throughout the year, allowing for an open scrutiny of work records, muster rolls, and expenditure details. The primary objective of this exercise was to verify that the implementation of rural employment schemes aligned strictly with the allocated budget for the 2025-2026 period and that the benefits effectively reached the intended beneficiaries at the grassroots level.

The meeting was chaired by Shri Jit Bahadur Limboo, Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat Member, and saw the presence of Hon’ble Panchayat President & Hon’ble Panchayat Vice President, Hon’ble Panchayat Members, Assistant Director (PRI), Divisional Engineer (RDD), Junior Engineer (JE), Social Welfare Inspector (SWI), alongside the District Social Audit Team, Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) and MGNREGA Mate.

The audit included a comprehensive review of both completed and ongoing infrastructure projects across various wards for the 2025-2026 cycle, specifically focusing on water drainage systems (Jhora), pedestrian footpaths, livestock shelters (cowsheds), and terrace cultivation improvements.

The local residents participated in the dialogue expressed high levels of satisfaction regarding the quality of work executed through the MGNREGA Central Plan.

The hearing concluded on a positive note. This proactive approach to governance ensures that all projects completed during the current financial year meet the required quality standards and administrative guidelines before the transition to the next fiscal period. The successful conclusion of this Social Audit reinforces the commitment of the 12-Nambu Sindrabung GPU to administrative transparency and the continued effectiveness of government welfare schemes.

Earlier today, Shri Bhim Hang Limboo, Minister cm Area MLA of 02-Yangthang, conducted an official inspection of several critical infrastructure projects under 12-Nambu Sindrabung GPU, Gyalshing District.

The visit primarily focused on the ongoing construction of the new additional Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) building, the progress of the new bridge over the Eung Khola & the construction of the protective retaining wall at Rimbik, designed to enhance slope stability and public safety.

Joined by the Hon’ble Panchayat President, Panchayat members, contractor & local residents, the Hon’ble Minister reviewed the quality of work to ensure these facilities meet the needs of the community.

This visit holds significant weight due to the severe landslide incidents that have recently plagued Rimbik. In late 2025, the region suffered devastating slope failures triggered by heavy monsoon rains, which resulted in tragic loss of life and extensive damage to residential property and local roads.

During his tour, Hon’ble Minister personally assessed the landslide-affected sites to evaluate restoration progress for the local population.

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Gyalshing, successfully organized an Awareness cm Sensitization Program yesterday at the Government Secondary School, Rimbik.

The session focused on critical legal frameworks and social protections, including the POCSO Act 2012, the prohibition of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Child Labour (Prevention & Regulation) Act 1986, the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006. Additionally, participants were briefed on the Mission Vatsalya Scheme and legal procedures surrounding Adoption.

The program was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Panchayat President, followed by the Hon’ble Panchayat Vice President & Panchayat Members, the School Headmaster, teachers, students, members of the School Management Committee (SMC), guardians, and representative from the DCPU.

This initiative by the Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department aims to empower the community with the knowledge necessary to safeguard the rights and well-being of every child.
