We are happy to share that the 38th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting of ICMR–National Institute for Tribal Health Research (ICMR–NITHR), Jabalpur, was successfully held on 17 August 2026 with a strong vision to advance evidence-based, innovative, and community-centred research to improve the health and well-being of tribal populations. The meeting brought together distinguished SAC members, eminent experts, scientists, and Directors of the ICMR institutes network to deliberate on emerging priorities and plan a stronger roadmap for advancing tribal health research.
ICMR–NITHR sincerely acknowledges and appreciates the valuable guidance, expertise, and support of all esteemed SAC members, ICMR leadership, Directors, experts, scientists, and participants. Their valuable contributions and insights will further strengthen our efforts towards addressing the unique health needs of tribal communities.

ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research, Jabalpur celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at the Institute campus.
The programme commenced with the flag hoisting by Dr. Praveen Kumar Bharti, Director, ICMR–NITHR, followed by the National Anthem. Addressing the gathering, the Director highlighted the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for a Viksit Bharat and emphasized the vital role of health research in achieving national development, particularly through improving the health and well-being of tribal communities. He also acknowledged the vision and leadership of Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research (DHR) and Director General, ICMR, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. Of India in strengthening tribal health through evidence-based interventions and implementation research.
On this significant occasion, scientists and staff members shared their thoughts. The celebration was further enriched by the enthusiastic participation of staff members’ children, who presented patriotic songs, adding a special touch of joy and national pride to the programme.

ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research, Jabalpur observed the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on 9th August 2026.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Praveen Kumar Bharti, Director, ICMR-NITHR, highlighting the Institute’s contributions towards improving the health and well-being of indigenous communities through research and interventions across diverse areas of tribal health.
The programme featured insightful lectures by Dr. Tapas Chakma, Director Research & Publication, Sukh Sagar Medical College & Hospital, Jabalpur, on “Wisdom and Modern Health Science with respect to Tribal Population”; Dr. Kamlesh J. Upadhyay, Professor & Head, Department of Medicine, B.J. Medical College & Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, on “Clinical Challenges and Innovations in Tribal Health”; and Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Gautam, Prant President, Mahakoshal Vigyan Parishad, Vigyan Bharati (VIBHA), Jabalpur, on “Translating Nature-Based Knowledge for Tribal Health.”
Dr. Harshwardhan V. Shende, Scientist ‘C’, presented a documentary showcasing the historical journey and key contributions of ICMR–NITHR and Dr. K. B. Saha, Scientist ‘G’, ICMR-NITHR, presented the vote of thanks.

The ICMR–National Institute for Tribal Health Research, Jabalpur, successfully organised the second edition S.H.I.N.E. – Science, Health and Innovation for NextGen Explorers, on 11–12 August 2026, as part of the nationwide school outreach initiative of the Department of Health Research–Indian Council of Medical Research (DHR–ICMR).

Inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to students to “spend one day as a scientist,” S.H.I.N.E. 2026 aims to nurture scientific curiosity among young learners and provide them with firsthand exposure to science, health research and innovation.

The two-day initiative was conducted across 83 locations nationwide, reaching around 30,000 students from Classes 9–12. Students were provided opportunities to interact with scientists, explore research laboratories.

At ICMR–NITHR, Jabalpur, and its two MRHRUs at Jheet and Datia, 523 students participated enthusiastically in the programme. The students experienced science beyond the classroom through laboratory visits, scientific demonstrations, research activities and interactive sessions with scientists, gaining insights into ongoing health research and its relevance to public health challenge
The programme provided a platform for young learners to engage directly with the scientific community, encouraging curiosity, scientific thinking and innovation, while inspiring them to explore careers in science and research.

Through S.H.I.N.E. 2026, ICMR–NITHR reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing scientific temper among young minds and inspiring the next generation of researchers and innovators, in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
