Save Sukhnag, No Hydropower Project

Sukhnag River Beerwah has been devastated by Mining in last 5 years & now don't destroy it by setting up Hydropower Project ? I was told by a reliable source that Govt is planning to set up Hydropower Project on this nallah ?

Ask this from people Branwar Chadoora who didn't get anything from 7.5 MW power plant set up on Doodh Ganga there around 15 years back ? Their forests were cut down , 2 kms Doodh Ganga stream got dried up, Haijan meadow became Ugly with huge Pipelines and in return they continue to pay Rs 1800 / Month Electricity Fees. Even BPL families are made to pay this huge fees? Only Project owner a Pvt Company of Chandigarh is making money and not even spending his CSR in local village ?

Better is Solar Electrification of area- Explore and tap Wind Energy in Tosamaidan, Upper Sutharan side- Sukhnag has best potential for Trout Farming , Angling , Rafting. There are dozens of Trouts Farms and they will get impacted. Develop this area for sustainable livelihood of locals and not for benifitting a Business Giant. Develop and Explore Eco-Tourism in the area not Hydropower Project. Don't allow further destruction of this Sukhang - I can only warn and advise - Phir Na Kehna Hamay Khabar Na Thee

After destroying our rivers, streams , public places, village common lands with Garbage dumping the Urban Local Bodies (Municipal Committee Pampore) has chose to dump its untreated waste inside the Saffron fields near NH 44 ? The executive officer of the Municipal Committee and any Government official who approved this site should face criminal proceedings, because what all is being done at Patalbagh Pampore is a criminal act against a heritage crop that took centuries to cultivate and could vanish within a handful of harvests.

Saffron built Pampore’s identity and sustained generations of families who worked this soil way before municipal waste trucks ever arrived. Officials sworn to protect that legacy have instead buried it under garbage, and the silence from the agencies meant to intervene has become its own form of complicity. There are Rats and Rodents around these fields now who are eating Saffron Corms (underground saffron seeds) . If authorities will not wake up now the entire crop will vanish in some years.

The Municipal Committee has been dumping solid waste, along with bio-medical and plastic refuse, on some 65 kanals of saffron land for the past three years now and neither our elected Govt, elected representatives, opposition or civil society is bothered ?

This is an open violation of Solid Waste Management Rules of 2016, the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules of 2016 and the Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2016, all issued under the Environment Protection Act of 1986. It also violates the newly adopted 2026 Rules as well ?

Plastic debris now flies over the dump with wind gusts and lands directly onto saffron beds. Farmers say the contamination has degraded the delicate soil chemistry that saffron cultivation needs to survive. The residents in nearby Patalbagh, Bilal Colony endure foul odors, toxic runoff and swarms of flies and mosquitoes.

Why have our municipal authorities failed to undertake Solid Waste Management as per scientific guidelines across J&K and instead of outsourcing other Govt institutions , it is better Govt outsources our Municipalities to some expert waste management companies so that people get Azadi from Waste and Trash at least
