Keralotsavam is one of the most popular events in the activities of the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board. It has the noble objective of providing an opportunity to the youth of rural areas, along with the urban dwellers, to showcase and promote their artistic and sporting talents. The Keralotsavam organizes preliminary level competitions at the grama panchyat level and the block and the district l
evel. The winners of the block-level competition participate in the district-level competition. In addition, those in the corporation and municipality can also directly participate in the district-level competitions. Those who have won the district level competitions participate in the state-level Kerala festival. Around 5,000 art and sports talents are showcasing their talents in state-level competitions. Trophies, certificates and prize money have been arranged for the winners of the Festival of Kerala. Grants are also being sanctioned to the local self-governing bodies for organizing the Kerala Festival. More than 5 lakh young arts and sports personalities from block, district and state levels are participating in the festival. In order to increase and ensure the participation of youth clubs in the Keralotsavam, awards are given to the youth clubs who score the highest points in the festival from the block level to the state level. Along with the Keralotsavam, a transgender festival titled ‘Marivil Fest’ is also being organized for the transgender community. It aims to provide an opportunity to the transgender community in the state to showcase their talents and bring them into the mainstream. Lalitha Gaanam, Mappilapattu, Nadodipattu (Single), Sangam, Painting, Poetry Writing, Monoact, Mimicry, Drama (Malayalam), Mime, Folk Dance (Single), Mohiniyattam, Sangam Dance, Oppana, Thiruvathira, Margamkali and Mylanchi Idal are some of the art competitions that have been included in the Keralotsavam. The winners are given cash prizes and certificates. The competitions are organized at the state level. Organizing art competitions in Marivil is directly implemented by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board. In order to increase the participation of marivil clubs formed by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board for the transgenders section, cash awards are given to marivil clubs who score the highest points in the state transgender Keralotsavam.
