Indian Institute of Management Kashipur invites you to participate at the National Seminar on "DELIVERING JUSTICE FOR WOMEN: LESSONS FROM FAST TRACK COURTS IN INDIA"

Background
India confronts a problem caused by a sluggish legal system and a significant number of outstanding cases. Article 21 of the Constitution, on the other hand, indirectly guarantees a fundamental right of a timely trial. In order to fulfil this constitutional mandate, 'Fast Track Courts' (FTCs) have been established as a remedy for the lengthy delays that impede the operation of 'regular' courts in India. Fast Track Special Court (FTSCs) for delivering justice to women have often been proposed as a remedy for the significant delays that afflict the operation of 'regular' courts in India. Nonetheless, it is evident that these Courts are afflicted by a variety of problems. Consequently, it is important to examine the history of FTSCs in India, their jurisdiction, advantages, and disadvantages, as well as the functioning of similar courts in other nations and some suggestions for enhancing their operation in India. The academia, lawyers, researchers, NGOs and stakeholder in the Judiciary can jointly contribute to the review of the efficacies of the FTSCs for women in the country and provide inputs to future policy directions.

3. Challenges of accessing justice through Fast Track Special Courts.
4. Role of the lawyers, government agencies and the judiciary in increasing the conviction rate of Fast Track Special Courts and their challenges.
5. Policy contexts to improve the efficiency of Fast Track Special Courts in India.
How to participate
Interested law students, doctoral scholars, faculty, lawyers, NGO representatives, members of the judiciary, and industry professionals are welcome to register online to participate at the seminar. If you want to present a paper, you are requested to send an abstract (Max 300 words) by email to [email protected] before 31 Oct 2022. All the participants will receive certificates of recognition from IIM Kashipur. There are no participating fees for the seminar. In addition to this, organisers will cover food and modest accommodation for the two days (10-11 Dec).

With the concurrence of the Government of India, the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur has been granted Academia Membership of the ITU in all three ITU Sectors: Radiocommunication, Telecommunication Standardization and Telecommunication Development. IIM Kashipur is the first IIM of the country to be granted membership of this United Nations agency. Only nine institutions from India have been accepted as a member (Full List here: https://www.itu.int/online/mm/scripts/gensel11?_memb=U).

As the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, ITU’s global membership brings together 193 Member States as well as some 900 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations. In doing so, ITU provides a unique, trusted and global multi-stakeholder platform for partners from the public and private sectors to address major ICT issues.

As a member of IIM Kashipur academic community can access the TIES (Telecommunication Information Exchange Service) which is a set of networked information resources and services offered by ITU. The National Commission for Women has sponsored a National Seminar on “GENDER STEREOTYPING IN CAMPUS PLACEMENT: AN INDUSTRY-ACADEMIA PERSPECTIVE” at IIM Kashipur to discuss various aspects of gender stereotypes on the career preferences of students. It will be held on 18 Mar 2019 (Mon) at Indian Institute of Management Kashipur. Sub-themes are:

• Gender stereotypes and recruiters (Industry)
• Career preferences in campus placements
• Gender bias in occupations / professions.
• Industry and academia collaboration in reducing gender stereotyping in campus placement processes

Further, on the side of the seminar a Research Methodology Workshop on gender focused research will also be held on 17 Mar 2019 (Sun) for Research Scholars and academics. Center for Public Policy and Government at IIM Kashipur hosted Prof Manoj Jha, Head, Social Work Dept, Delhi University last Sunday (3 July). A known face of TV Debates, Prof Jha's research interests revolve around methodological and conceptual issues of social protest movements, minorities and marginalized communities. His latest book Riots as Rituals is based on his research on communal relations, mobilization and violence with the Bhagalpur riots in the Backdrop. An academician-activist to the core, Manoj K Jha is a practitioner of emancipator and anti-oppressive approach in Social Work. He has designed and implemented rehabilitative and re-conciliatory action projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan and has been part of several civil society fact-finding teams to respond to instances of violence and atrocities.
