India's Premier Shipyard Cochin Shipyard was incorporated in the year 1972 as a fully owned Government of India company.

In the last three decades the company has emerged as a forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding & Ship repair industry. This yard can build and repair the largest vessels in India. It can build ships upto 1,10,000 DWT and repair ships upto 1,25,000 DWT. The yard has delivered two of India’s largest double hull Aframax tankers each of 95,000 DWT. y renowned companies from Europe & Middle East and is nominated to build the country’s first indigenous Air Defense Ship. Shipyard has undertaken repairs of all types of ships including upgradation of ships of oil exploration industry as well as periodical layup repairs and life extension of ships of Navy, UTL, Coast Guard, Fisheries and Port Trust besides merchant ships of SCI & ONGC. The yard has, over the years, developed adequate capabilities to handle complex and sophisticated repair jobs. The Shipyard also trains graduate engineers to marine engineers who later join ships both Indian and foreign as 5th Engineers. 100 are trained every year. Cochin Shipyard was conceived of in the year 1969 as the first Greenfield Shipbuilding Yard in the country. The yard was designed and constructed under technical collaboration with M/s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (M.H.I), Japan and the Company came into existence in 1972. The yard commenced the shipbuilding operations in 1978, Shiprepair in 1981, Marine Engineering Training in 1993 and Offshore Upgradation in 1999. Cochin Shipyard’s recent success in securing export orders have been achieved through consistent improvement in productivity and also aggressive marketing undertaken in the last few years . CSL has signed an agreement with Maritech Integrated Maritime Pvt Ltd., to make a 5% share capital investment, under CSL’s flagship USHUS Startup Programme.The investment reflects CSL’s continued commitment towards promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, indigenisation, and digital transformation in India’s maritime sector. Through the USHUS programme, CSL aims to support emerging startups and technologies that can strengthen the country’s maritime ecosystem and enhance operational efficiency across the maritime value chain.
CSL has earmarked a corpus of ₹50 crore under the USHUS programme for supporting startups in the maritime sector, in partnership with IIMK LIVE and IIT Madras.

Major General Rob de Wit, Deputy Commander Royal Netherlands Navy accompanied by Her Excellency Ms. Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India, Nepal and Bhutan along with a high level delegation from the Kingdom of Netherlands visited CSL. The delegation was briefed on the & product portfolio of CSL and was taken to vessels being built for Dutch clients and vessels built in with Dutch companies. The Netherlands is a top FDI source ($43.75 billion, 2000-2023) and a key European gateway for India, with strong bilateral defense ties including cooperation in ports, shipping, and sustainable maritime technology, with a LoI on Defence Cooperation co-development and co-production of military hardware.

CSL is proud to with (DPA) for the of a state-of-the-art Ship Repair Facility at Vadinar, with a combined investment of ₹1,570 crore.

The project is envisaged to create world-class infrastructure capable of handling high-value repairs and maintenance of large vessels, significantly enhancing India’s domestic ship repair capacity.

The facility is expected to generate employment opportunities, promote ancillary industries, and strengthen the overall maritime ecosystem in the region.

The delivery & the protocol signing of ‘MALWAN’- the Second Anti Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), build by CSL, was held today. The protocol signing was done by Dr Harikrishnan S, Dir(Ops),CSL & Cdr Pravin Kumar Tiwari, Commanding Officer (Designate), INS MALWAN in the presence of Shri Jose VJ, CMD, CSL, Cmde D Sengupta, CSO(TECH), HQWNC, Shri Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, Dir(Tech), CSL,Sr Officials of Indian Navy and CSL. The vessel will be used for underwater surveillance, search & rescue operations.

CSL commemorated the 55th National Safety Day, today, the Company's commitment to workplace safety and the well-being of every member of the CSL family.

The 7th batch of 20 CSL employees returned from Japan, after successfully completing the highly rated AOTS Japan Training Program. The team returned after an enriching global learning experience. Apart from academics, the team was provided extensive exposure to Japan’s industrial environment, advanced workplace systems, operational excellence practices and structured management processes.The team also experienced Japan’s rich culture, work ethics and societal values, thereby broadening their professional and global outlook.
