The courtroom was silent.full story
A young boy, barely 10, stood between his mother and father — both refusing to look at each other.
The judge adjusted his glasses and asked softly,
“Son, who do you want to live with?”
The boy didn’t answer. His hands were shaking.
The mother spoke first, tears rolling down her face,
“Your Honor… I raised him. I stayed when his father left.”
The father quickly responded,
“I worked day and night to provide for him. I deserve him.”
The room filled with tension. Everyone waited.
The judge leaned forward, gently repeating,
“Son… tell us the truth. Who do you choose?”
The boy finally looked up. His voice cracked.
“I… I don’t want to choose.”
The courtroom froze.
He took a deep breath, tears falling now…
“Because… every time they fight… I feel like I lose both.”
Silence.
Even the judge couldn’t hide his emotions.
The boy continued,
“At home… Mom cries at night… and Dad… he just stays quiet.
They think I don’t see… but I see everything.”
Both parents slowly lowered their heads.
“I don’t need a perfect mom or dad…”
He whispered,
“I just need them to stop hurting each other.”
Tears spread across the courtroom.
For a moment, it wasn’t about law anymore…
It was about a broken family.
The judge paused… then said something no one expected:
“This court will not decide today.
Because this child doesn’t need a judgment…
He needs his parents back.”
The gavel never struck.
And for the first time…
The mother and father looked at each other — not with anger…
But with regret.
