930 FIRs Registered, Over 1,000 Drug Peddlers Arrested In J&K: LG Manoj Sinha

Says 600 driving licences cancelled, 124 passports recommended for cancellation; vows drug-free J&K

Kulgam, June 1 (KNC): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said the administration is committed to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and will not rest until Jammu and Kashmir becomes a drug-free Union Territory.

Addressing a gathering in Kulgam, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the government's intensified anti-narcotics campaign and said strict action is being taken against drug smugglers and peddlers across J&K.

He revealed that around 930 FIRs have been registered in connection with drug trafficking and narcotics-related offences, while more than 1,000 drug smugglers and peddlers have been arrested during the ongoing crackdown.

The LG further stated that authorities have taken stringent measures against those involved in the drug trade, including the cancellation of over 600 driving licences. He added that the administration has also recommended cancellation of 124 passports of individuals allegedly linked to drug-related activities.

Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, Sinha said the fight against drugs is not merely a law-enforcement challenge but a social responsibility that requires collective efforts from families, educational institutions, religious leaders and civil society.

He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs and support the government's mission of building a healthy and prosperous society.

Reiterating his commitment, the Lieutenant Governor declared that the administration would continue its sustained campaign against drug abuse and trafficking and "will not sit until a drug-free society is achieved in Jammu and Kashmir." (KNC)
