The Regional Centre for Urban & Environmental Studies (RCUES), Lucknow was established at University of Lucknow in the year 1968 by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India. It is one of the premier Centres in the country established to play a positive role in the field of urban management. The key activities of the Centre include training, capacity building, research, teaching
, consultancy services and dissemination of information relating to the urban sector in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Manipur & Sikkim. The Centre provides its expertise, advisory services & consultancy services to urban local bodies all over the country. The Centre through its mandate intends to build the Capacities of City Managers for Achieving Good Urban Governance
As National Network of Resource Centres (NNRC) & National Resource Centre (NRC) under Ministry of Housing & Poverty Alleviation (MOHUPA), GOI the Centre has been entrusted since past 5 years with the responsibility of human resource development through capacity building activities of officials & non-officials with regard to planning, implementation etc. of the flagship schemes of Ministry viz. SJSRY/Proposed NULM, RAY, USHA etc. in 16 states of the country viz. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, all N.E. States and Sikkim. The target group of training & capacity building activities include elected representatives, state/district/city level officials from ULBs & parastatals, NGOs, CBOs, private sector, non-officials & other stakeholders engaged in urban administration, management & development. The Centre provides need based consultancy support to the various state governments. Vision Statement:
