भारतीय रेल ने दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल में समूची
ब्रॉड गेज लाइन के विद्युतीकरण के साथ एक उल्‍लेखनीय उपलब्‍धि हासिल की
कुल 1454 रूट किलोमीटर और 3266 ट्रैक किलोमीटर को शतप्रतिशत विद्युतीकृत किया गया
आयातित कच्‍चे तेल और कार्बन फुट प्रिंट पर निर्भरता कम होगी
भारतीय रेल ने उत्‍तर रेलवे के दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल के अंतर्गत आने वाले समूचे ब्रॉड गेज रेलमार्ग का विद्युतीकरण करके एक महत्‍वपूर्ण उपलब्‍धि हासिल की है । इससे इस क्षेत्र में रेल संपर्क बेहतर होगा और रेलगाड़ियों की गतिसीमा भी बढ़ेगी । 85% विद्युतीकृत रूट किलोमीटर के साथ भारतीय रेल मिशन शतप्रतिशत विद्युतीकरण को पूरा करने की ओर तेजी से बढ़ रहा है और दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा हरित रेल नेटवर्क बन गया है ।
अप्रैल 1864 में अस्‍तित्‍व में आया दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल भारतीय रेल पर यात्रियों, पर्यटकों और पर्यावरण अनुकूलता की दृष्‍टि से भारतीय रेल का सर्वाधिक महत्‍वपूर्ण और अग्रणी मण्‍डल है । पूरी तरह से कम्‍प्‍यूटरीकृत आरक्षण प्रणाली लागू करने वाला यह भारतीय रेल का पहला मण्‍डल है । देश की पहली राजधानी एक्‍सप्रेस, पहली शताब्‍दी एक्‍सप्रेस और हाईस्‍पीड गतिमान रेलगाड़ियां दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल से शुरू की गईं । पहली सीएनजी रेलगाड़ी भी दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल से ही चलाई गई । यह उत्‍तर रेलवे के 50 प्रतिशत माल लदान और 50 प्रतिशत यात्री यातायात को अकेले वहन करने वाला मण्‍डल है । इस प्रकार यह मण्‍डल भारत के प्रत्‍येक भाग के लिए यात्री और माल रेलगाड़ियों के संचालन से ग्रामीण अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था और जनजातीय कल्‍याण में भी योगदान दे रहा है ।
वर्तमान में दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल पर 1454 रूट किलोमीटर है और विद्युतीकरण की दृष्‍टि से कुल ट्रैक किलोमीटर 3266 किलोमीटर है । वर्ष 2021-2022 में शतप्रतिशत विद्युतीकरण का लक्ष्‍य हासिल करके भारतीय रेल के सर्वाधिक विद्युतीकृत ट्रैक किलोमीटर वाला मण्‍डल बन गया है । शत-प्रतिशत विद्युतीकरण हासिल करने वाला यह उत्‍तर रेलवे का पहला मण्‍डल है ।
दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल के विद्युतीकरण का कार्य दो चरणों में पूरा किया गया । पहले चरण में, 20 वर्ष की अवधि के दौरान स्‍वर्णिम चतुर्भुज अर्थात गाजियाबाद-नई दिल्‍ली, नई दिल्‍ली-पलवल और दिल्‍ली-अम्‍बाला के महत्‍वपूर्ण सैक्‍शनों को विद्युतीकृत किया गया । दूसरे चरण में, नो वर्ष की अवधि में वर्ष 2013 से 2022 तक शेष गैर-विद्युतीकृत सैक्‍शन अर्थात दिल्‍ली-बठिंडा, दिल्‍ली-रेवाड़ी और गाजियाबाद-सहारनपुर सहित सभी ब्रांच लाइनों को विद्युतीकृत किया गया है । वर्तमान में, दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल की कुल अवस्‍थापित क्षमता 17 कर्षण सब-स्‍टेशन और 106 स्‍विचिंग पोस्‍टों वाले 734 एमवीए (मेगा वोल्‍ट एम्‍पियर) की है ।
रेलगाड़ियों की बढ़ती हुई संख्‍या और हाईस्‍पीड़ रेलगाड़ियों के चलने को ध्‍यान में रखते हुए नई दिल्‍ली–पलवल और नई दिल्‍ली-गाजियाबाद-चिपयाना सैक्‍शनों के बीच ओएचई को 2X25 केवी कर्षण प्रणाली में अपग्रेड करने का कार्य प्रगति पर चल रहा है । साथ ही, दिल्‍ली-अम्‍बाला सैक्‍शन के ओएचई को भी 2X25 केवी कर्षण प्रणाली में अपग्रेड करना विचाराधीन है ।
दिल्‍ली मण्‍डल के अंतर्गत शत-प्रतिशत विद्युतीकरण हासिल करके पर्यावरण के अनुकूल रेल परिवहन प्रणाली का माध्‍यम उपलब्‍ध कराया गया है । इससे आयातित कच्‍चे तेल पर निर्भरता कम होगी और मूल्‍यवान विदेशी मुद्रा की भी बचत होगी ।
वर्तमान में विद्युतकर्षण पर स्विच करने से निम्नलिखित लाभ प्राप्त हुए हैं:
1. पर्यावरण के अनुकूल परिवहन के साधन
2. आयातित डीज़ल ईंधन पर निर्भरता कम हुई है, जिससे क़ीमती विदेशी मुद्रा की बचत हुई और कार्बन फ़ुटप्रिंट्स में कमी आई है
3. परिचालन लागत में कमी
4. इलेक्ट्रिक लोकोमोटिव की उच्च ढुलाई क्षमता वाली भारी मालगाड़ियों और लंबी यात्री ट्रेनों के परिचालन से थ्रूपुट में वृद्धि हुई है
5. कर्षण परिवर्तन का अवरोध हटने से सेक्‍शन की गति क्षमता में वृद्धि हुई है

Indian Railways achieves a significant milestone with electrification of entire Broad Gauge Network in Delhi Division

Indian Railways achieved a significant milestone in Railway electrification with the completion of electrification of Broad Gauge (BG) route in Delhi division of Northern Railway. Indian Railways has completed the electrification in Delhi Division. This will improve rail connectivity and the speed of trains in the region. With 85% of Route Kilometers electrified, Indian Railways is rapidly progressing to accomplish Mission 100% Electrification and become the largest green railway network in the world.

Came into existence in April 1864, Delhi Division is one of most important & leading division of Indian Railways is, people, tourist and environmental friendly division of Indian Railways. Delhi Division is the first division of Indian Railway to start fully computerized reservation system. Country’s first Rajdhani Express, first Shatabdi Express and High speed Gatimaan train were started from Delhi Division. First CNG train was also started in Delhi Division. Delhi Division is alone carrying the 50% of the freight loading and 50% of the passenger traffic of Northern Railway. And thus contributing for rural economy and tribal welfare also by running passengers and goods trains to each part of India.

Presently, Delhi Division has 1454 Route Kilometer (RKM) and from electrification point of view total Track Kilometer (TKM) is 3266 KM. 100% electrification of Delhi Division has been achieved in Year 2021-22 making it the highest electrified TKM division of Indian Railway. Delhi Division was first in Northern Railway to achieve this feat of 100% electrification.

Electrification of Delhi Division was carried out in two phases. In first phase, spanning over a period of 20 years, important sections of Golden quadrilateral i.e. Ghaziabad- New Delhi, New Delhi-Palwal & section of Delhi- Ambala were electrified. In second phase, spanning over the period of 9 years, from year 2013 to 2022, remaining un-electrified sections i.e. important main line sections Delhi- Bhatinda, Delhi- Rewari and Ghaziabad- Saharanpur, including all branch lines, were electrified. Presently, total installed capacity in Delhi Division is 734 (Mega Volt Ampere) MVA with 17 (Traction Sub-Station) TSS and 106 switching posts.

In order to cater to increasing number of trains and to run high speed trains, work of up-gradation of OHE to 2x25 KV traction system is in progress between New Delhi-Palwal and New Delhi-Ghaziabad- Chipyana sections. Also, proposal for up-gradation of OHE of Delhi- Ambala section to 2x25 KV system is under consideration.

By achieving 100% electrification by Delhi Division, the eco-friendly mode of railway transportation has been ensured, thus reducing dependence on imported crude oil which in turn has resulted in saving of precious foreign exchange for the Nation.

Switching to electric traction has provided following benefits:

1. Environmental-friendly mode of transport
2. Reduced dependence on imported diesel fuel, thereby saving precious foreign currency and reduced carbon footprints
3. Reduced operating cost
4. Haulage of heavier freight trains and longer passenger trains with high haulage capacity of Electric Locomotives leading to increased throughput.
5. Increased sectional capacity by eliminating detention on account of traction change.
6. Saving of Specific Energy Consumption.
