A new chapter begins for Meghalaya’s Golden Spice.
The Mission Golden Spice – Integrated Lakadong Turmeric Value Chain Enhancement Project was launched by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon’ble Union Minister for DoNER & Communications, Government of India in the presence of Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, marking a transformative milestone for the state’s Lakadong Turmeric sector.
With an investment of ₹175.45 crore, the five-year mission (2026–2030) aims to strengthen the entire Lakadong Turmeric value chain through modern processing infrastructure, the North East’s largest organic turmeric processing and curcumin extraction facility, FPO-led development, organic certification, branding, and export promotion. The initiative will benefit 17,500+ additional farmers and expand cultivation to 7,000 hectares.
The programme was also attended by Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Hon’ble Minister of State, MDoNER, Shri Timothy D. Shira, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Meghalaya (Virtual), along with inspiring virtual interactions with Padma Shri awardee Smti. Trinity Saioo and progressive farmer Smti. Siangshai, highlighting Meghalaya’s vision of transforming Lakadong Turmeric into a globally recognised brand.
