STATE GOVT OFFERS NO PROPER PLAN FOR VACCINATION OR ECONOMIC REVIVAL. ONLY LOCKDOWN CANNOT BE THE SOLUTION, SAYS PASSANG SHERPA
Political activist and coordinator of ‘I Am Article 371F Campaign’, Passang Sherpa has accused the the state government of displaying 'criminal negligence' towards Covid patients in home isolation while distributing the Covid medical kits.
He said that inside the kits, among other medicines, there are two medicines that pose a huge risk to pregnant ladies, lactating mothers, children below 12 years of age and persons with comorbidities and that no written guideline or advisory is given about dosage or which section of people need to avoid those medicines.
In a press conference held earlier today Mr. Sherpa demanded a clarification from the govt failing which a criminal negligence case would be filed against the Health department and Government of Sikkim if there are any adverse effects on such patients.
He also accused the state govt of having no clear roadmap on vaccination or economic revival.
"Instead of providing solutions with extensive vaccination which is the need of the hour and offering an economic revival plan, all that the govt has to offer is extension of lockdown," he said.
'Is Sikkim even trying to get enough vaccines for the above 18 group within a time frame. We have no idea how many vaccines have been ordered or how many delivered. The state govt could partner with other states as well as use its MPs and other networking to get more vaccines from the Centre."
He added that hydel and pharma companies which have a large workforce can now procure vaccines on their own and should be convinced to vaccinate all their employees.
Requesting the govt to make public the State Economic Revival Committee (SERC) report he stated that all segments of economy were hurting but it is still not clear what kind of recommendations were made by the SERC to revive the economy and provide relief to small entrepreneurs and daily wage earners.
