KVK, ROPAR ORGANIZES A WEBINAR UNDER NAAS REGIONAL CHAPTER LUDHIANA

The Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized a webinar on “Water Resource Management” under NAAS, Regional Chapter Ludhiana on March 30, 2021. The programme was organized to sensitize students on the importance of water resources and novel technologies to conserve water. The programme was held under the guidance of Dr. J.S. Mahal, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana. Around 55 students participated in this programme.
Dr. G.S. Buttar, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana also shared valuable information with the participants and urged them to play an active role in judicious use of water.
Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK, Ropar welcomed all the participants and discussed the key concerns of water resource management. He elaborated on various initiatives of the KVK in generating awareness among youth and farmers on efficient use of water and drip irrigation. He also elaborated on efficient irrigation technologies like drip irrigation, sprinkle irrigation etc.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor shared the information on water saving at household level. Proper utilization of water in our homes too can save this precious resource, she added.
The programme concluded with the pledge for judicious use of water by all the participants.

KVK Ropar organised a Harvest day on wheat under CRM project
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone -1 Ludhiana organized a harvest day in village Khabra on March 24th, 2021. The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar, in which around sixty farmers of surrounding villages participated. Dr. Makkar informed that the programme was organized to showcase the successful performance of the happy seeder sown wheat at the farmer field and to adopt PAU recommended technologies for the management of crop residue. Dr. Pawan Kumar, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology), discussed various techniques of insect and disease management in the field crops with special emphasis on rice crop. Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) highlighted the importance of crop diversification and encouraged the farmers to adopt nutrition garden. Mr. Jashandeep Singh, Extension Assistant (Agrometreology) informed the participants about the agromet advisory services of the KVK. The programme ended with a field visit to the demonstration plots.

KVK ROPAR ORGANIZED FIELD DAY ON GRAM

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana organized a field day on Gram in village Jhandian (Anandpur Sahib) district Ropar on March 24, 2021.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar. Dr. Makkar said that the event was organized to showcase the successful performance of gram variety PBG-7 at the farmer field and to further encourage cultivation of pulses on larger area. He added that this is a coordinated effort to promote area under pulses with the objective to increase crop diversity.
Dr. Opinder Singh Sandhu, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) discussed the practices for profitable cultivation of Gram and urged farmers to grow pulses for their own use also. He discussed about the importance of soil testing and use of biofertilizers in Gram.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor (Home Science) highlighted nutritional importance of pulses in daily diet.
The programme ended with a field visit to the demonstration plots.

Twenty Five days Skill Development Training on Forest Nursery Raiser concludes at KVK Ropar

A twenty five days long skill development training on ‘Forest Nursery Raiser’ organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1 concluded on March 23rd, 2021. The training was conducted under Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI), Gurugram, in which a total of twenty five farmers and rural youth participated.
Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.) KVK, Ropar and the Course coordinator congratulated the successful trainees and apprised them about the huge demand of poplar nursery plants in the district which is a golden opportunity for the trainees to come up with the enterprise of forest nursery. He discussed the scope of subsidiary agricultural enterprises in economic upliftment of rural youth and the role of the KVKs in this direction. He further informed that during the training programme, exposure visits to the Department of Forestry & Natural Resources, PAU; School of Organic Farming, PAU and Forest Nursery, Department of Forests and Wildlife, Ropar were conducted for practical exposure of the trainees. Additionally, special lectures by experts of Department of Forests & Wildlife, Ropar, Lead Bank, and NFL were also arranged.
Ms. Ankurdeep Preety, Technical Coordinator (Forest Nursery Raiser) informed that the 25- days training focused on various technologies of the nursery raising of forest trees. The training programme included detailed lectures on propagation techniques for different tree species especially Poplar, irrigation & fertilizer management in nursery, IPM practices in forest nurseries etc. Along with the lectures, practical exercises on different aspects of nursery raising were also conducted which enabled the trainees to acquire skills required in raising of forest nurseries.
The trainees were also provided free literature on agroforestry trees and poplar cultivation.

KVK ROPAR ORGANIZED A HARVEST DAY TO MARK THE SUCCESS OF CRM TECHNOLOGY

In a series of events organized under CRM project, KVK Ropar conducted another ‘Harvest Day on Wheat’ on March 24, 2021 under the umbrella of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana.
Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Ropar informed that the programme was organized in village Majher with the objective to create awareness among the farmers about ill-effects of crop residue burning and encourage them to adopt novel crop residue management technology. Dr. Makkar shared that the popularization and promotion of agricultural mechanization for in situ management of paddy residues under this project met a huge success in district Ropar with the cooperation of all stakeholders.
Dr. Opinder Singh Sandhu, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) shared the information about the use of different machines, such as PAU Super Straw Management System (SMS), Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Rotavator, Baler, Mould Board Plough, etc. He said that the paddy residue incorporation not only improves the soil health, but also helps in increasing the crop productivity.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor (Home Science) shared the information about various vocational training programmes for rural women and the alternative uses of paddy straw at household level.

KVK Ropar organised a Field Day on Gobhi Sarson

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone -1 Ludhiana organized a field day on the Gobhi Sarson on March 22nd, 2021 at village Sheikhupur. The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr GS Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg), KVK Ropar, in which around fourty five farmers and farm women of the district participated. Dr Makkar informed that the programme was organized to showcase the successful performance of the new Gobhi Sarson canola hybrid PGSH 1707 at the farmer field and to further encourage cultivation of oilseeds on larger scale. He also apprised the participants about the advantages of Canola Sarson over other varieties. Dr Pawan Kumar, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology), discussed various techniques of insect and disease management in the field crops with special emphasis on Gobhi Sarson. Ms. Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry) highlighted the importance of crop diversification and encouraged the farmers to adopt low water requiring crops for a sustainable future in agriculture. Dr Opinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) shed light on the cultivation practices of Gobhi Sarson and motivated the farmers to go for processing of their produce to earn better income. KVK ROPAR ORGANIZED A FIELD DAY ON LENTIL
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana organized a field day on lentil on 19.03.2021 at village Garhi, Ropar.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar in which 70 farmers and farmer women of the district participated actively. Dr Makkar informed that the event was organized to showcase the successful performance of new lentil variety LL-1373 at the farmer field and to further encourage cultivation of pulses on larger area. Dr. Opinder Singh Sandhu, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) discussed the management practices for profitable cultivation of lentil crop and urged the farmers to grow pulses for their own use also. He discussed about the importance of soil testing and use of biofertilizers in lentil. Dr Pawan Kumar, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) explained the role of pulses in crop diversification and shed light on pest management tactics in Lentil. KVK, ROPAR CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY

The PAU’s, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar celebrated International Women Day with full fervor at KVK under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education and ICAR-ATARI Zone-1 PAU, Ludhiana. A total of 35 farm women, adolescent girls and farmers participated in this programme.
Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Ropar in his opening remarks, welcomed all the participants and discussed the role of women in agriculture. He emphasized on gender equality in which women and men enjoy equal opportunities, rights and obligations in all spheres of life. He also cited various examples of women who had achieved greater heights in their career and became a role model for other women.
On this occasion, a program on women empowerment by ICAR Headquarters was also screened on the virtual platform for the participants in which different themes related to Women Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Equity and Empowerment were highlighted.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor (Home Science) shared the information about different entrepreneurship skills imparted to farm women by KVK Ropar.
Ms. Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry) shared the information on the role of nutrition garden and medicinal plants for healthy living.

KVK Ropar organizing a thirty day vocational training programme on “Small poultry farmer”
KVK Ropar is organizing a thirty day skill development training programme on ‘Small poultry farmer’ (Feb 2, 2021-Mar 3, 2021) under the aegis of Agriculture Skill Council of India, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana. During the inaugural session, Deputy Director (Trg.) & course coordinator, KVK Ropar, Dr. G.S. Makkar welcomed the 20 enrolled participants and elaborated the scope and role of poultry farming in rural development and employment generation. Dr. Makkar emphasized that such trainings are need of the hour for ensuring skill upgradation, economic development and self-employment of farmers and rural youth.
Dr. Aparna, Technical Coordinator elaborated on objectives and the detailed training curriculum. She added that apart from theory and practical sessions on various management aspects of poultry birds this 240 hrs. training would include exposure visits to poultry institutes and farms and will make the trainees well versed with backyard and commercial poultry farming under field conditions.

KVK, ROPAR IMPARTS ONE DAY TRAINING ON VINEGAR PREPARATION

The PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized one day training on “Vinegar preparation” under the aegis of Director of Extension Education, PAU. Thirty five farmers and farm women actively participated in the training programme.
Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Ropar in his opening remarks, welcomed all the trainees and apprised them of the scope of this venture through value addition of sugarcane and other fruit juices. He motivated the participants to adopt this enterprise by forming small self-help groups.
Dr. Keshani, Extension Specialist (Microbiology), shared that participants were imparted training on the preparation of vinegar with sugarcane juice. She also shared that vinegar can be prepared with different types of seasonal fruits.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor (Home Science) said that farmers/farm women can increase their family income by adopting the same as enterprise.
On this occasion, an exhibition was also arranged on different types of vinegar like grapes, apple and jamun prepared by PAU, Ludhiana.

Twenty five days training programme on “Forest Nursery Raiser” commences at KVK Ropar
A twenty five day skill development training programme on ‘Forest Nursery Raiser’ started at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar on Feb 15, 2021 under the umbrella of Agriculture Skill Council of India, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.) & course coordinator, KVK Ropar. Dr. Makkar apprised that 25 farmers and rural youth from all over the district registered for the training programme. He added that there is need to develop model farmer enterprises and KVK Ropar is laying emphasis in this direction though capacity building and imparting practical skills to rural youth as a step towards their self-entrepreneurship of rural youth.
Ms. Ankurdeep Preety, Technical Coordinator (Forest Nursery Raiser), said that the 200 hrs training will acquaint the farmers about the various aspects of forest nursery raising such as propagation techniques for different tree species, irrigation & fertilizer management in nursery, IPM practices, marketing linkages etc. The training will focus on the nursery raising practices of various forest tree species with main focus on Poplar and Eucalyptus.
She added that the main focus of the training shall remain on imparting skill through learning by doing.

KVK, Ropar organized a seminar for college students under aegis of NAAS
The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized a seminar on Agriculture in 21st century- concerns & remedies under Ludhiana Chapter of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences on February 11, 2021.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. G. S. Makkar with aim to sensitize the college students on the key issues in modern day agricultural production and marketing in which more than 80 students of Govt. College, Ropar participated.
Dr. Makkar welcomed all the participants and discussed the impact of various problems like pesticide residues, depleting water table and burning of crop residues on modern day agriculture. He elaborated on various initiatives of KVK, Ropar in generating mass awareness among youth on these issues. He also informed the participants about the various ways to efficiently manage the pesticide residues, paddy straw and underground water resources.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor, Home Science, discussed the problem of malnutrition in developing children and emphasized on importance of balanced diet. She also shared information on Nutri-thali for good physical and mental growth of the college students. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pawan Kumar, Asstt. Prof. (Plant pathology) and an oath ceremony for conserving natural resources towards a cleaner environment.
