Thailand: At least nine Buddhist monks were killed and several others injured after a pickup truck, allegedly driven by an 11-year-old boy, crashed into a group of monks during a pilgrimage in northeastern Thailand's Mukdahan Province on Thursday.

According to local authorities, the monks were walking alongside lay followers toward a temple in neighboring Ubon Ratchathani Province when the vehicle veered into the procession. Investigators believe the boy had taken his parents' pickup truck without permission before the crash.

Emergency responders transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while police launched an investigation into the incident. The tragedy has shocked the nation and renewed concerns about road safety and access to vehicles by minors.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including how the child came to be driving the vehicle and the factors that led to the collision
