The 80th Independence Day Celebration was organised with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the Integrated Engineering Complex, Dakbungalow, Soreng District. The programme was graced by the Hon’ble Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and MLA, Daramdin, Shri M.N. Sherpa, as the Chief Guest.

The programme was conducted by DPO (DDMA), Mrs. Rajni Pega, and MEO, Mr. Roshan Sharma.

The programme commenced with the welcome address delivered by ADC (Dev), Soreng, Shri Ongdi Sherpa, who extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, officials, awardees and members of the gathering.

The Independence Day message of the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, was conveyed by the District Magistrate, Soreng, Shri Dhiraj Subedi. Similarly, the message of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, was conveyed by ADC, Soreng, Shri D.R. Bista.

The celebration was attended by Zilla Adhyakshya, Mrs. Tila Devi Gurung; Advisor (IPRD), Shri S.B. S***a; Chairperson, Fisheries Department, Mrs. Anuradha Gurung; Chairperson, Agriculture & Horticulture Board, Shri C.K. C. Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Awards

As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, awards were presented to the best-performing Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) for their commendable efforts and performance in promoting a drug-free society.

2nd Position: Budang GPU
3rd Position: Deythang GPU

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by GM, DIC, Mrs. Anula Gurung, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, officials, awardees, participants and members of the public for their valuable presence and contribution towards the successful conduct of the 80th Independence Day celebration.

Today, a field inspection was conducted at the landslide-affected area of Bagchasey Kholsa, Chotasamdong, Soreng District. During the inspection, it was observed that the road had been severely damaged due to the landslide, causing significant disruption to connectivity.

Thereafter, the SGAY-allotted households at Chotasamdong GPU were visited for field inspection and verification to assess the status of the beneficiaries.

Lastly, the damaged retaining wall below the residence of Mr. Ogen Lepcha ward No. 03 of Chumbung was inspected. The wall was found to have been severely damaged due to the continuous rainfall over the last three days, posing a potential risk to the house and the surrounding area.

Today, a field inspection of the landslide-affected area under Chumbung Block, Soreng District, was successfully conducted in the presence of the BDO, Chumbung, Shri Tika Ram Rai, Hon'ble Panchayat President, Smt. Karuna Darnal, Panchayat Members Smt. Rekha Gurung, Smt. Anita Gurung, Shri Tek Bir Gurung, Assistant Engineer, BAC Chumbung, Shri Govind Dhital and Panchayat Inspector, BAC Chumbung, Mr. Edben Rai.

During the inspection, as part of the relief measures, tarpaulins were distributed to the affected families to provide temporary support.

Today, a site inspection was conducted to verify the beneficiaries under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY) at 14–Chakung GPU under BAC Chumbung, Soreng District.
The verification was carried out in the presence of respected BDO Chumbung, Shri Tika Ram Rai, Smt. Karuna Darnal, Hon'ble Panchayat President, Mr. Anil Manger, Panchayat Vice-President, Smt. Anita Gurung, Ward Panchayat Member and Mr. Edben Rai, Panchayat Inspector, BAC Chumbung.
The inspection aimed to verify the eligibility of the beneficiaries under the SGAY scheme to ensure transparency and the effective implementation of the housing programme in accordance with the Government guidelines.

Today, a site inspection was conducted to verify the beneficiaries under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY) at 16–Chotasamdong Arubotey GPU under BAC Chumbung, Soreng District.

The verification was carried out in the presence of the BDO Chumbung, Shri Tika Ram Rai, Hon’ble Ward Panchayat Member Mrs. Tika Devi Gurung, along with the Junior Engineers and Panchayat Inspectors of BAC Chumbung.

During the visit, the team inspected the beneficiaries’ sites to verify their eligibility and assess the status of the proposed housing land, ensuring that the implementation of the SGAY is being carried out in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

NITI TARA Toolkit Training Conducted at the Chamber of the SDM, Soreng

In a significant step towards strengthening evidence-based governance, the Block Administrative Centre, Chumbung–Chakung, Soreng, officially received the NITI TARA (Toolkit for Analysis, Review and Action) on July 8, 2026. Developed by NITI Aayog, this advanced and portable governance solution is designed to enhance data-driven decision-making at both the district and block levels.

Following the handover, a comprehensive hands-on training session was conducted by the expert team from EdCIL, comprising Mr. Samir Ray, Mr. Manoj Biswas, Mr. Debajyoti Guha Niogi, and Mr. Dhiman Mahanta.

The training was attended by district and block administrative officials, including Ms. Sakchum Lepcha, SDM, Soreng; Mr. Bishnu Lall Sharma, CAO, Soreng; Ms. Meemnam S***a, Accounts Officer; Mr. Amir Bhandari, Assistant Director (IT); Mr. Aditya Raj Sharma, Aspirational Block Fellow (ABF); officials from the IT Section, Soreng DAC; and representatives from the Chumbung Aspirational Block, Mr. Edben Rai (PI) and Mr. Paniel Rai (O.A.).

The session focused on familiarizing participants with the features and applications of the NITI TARA Toolkit, enabling administrators to leverage data analytics for effective planning, monitoring, review, and informed decision-making in governance.
