*Shocking magnitude of irregularities in Fire & Emergency Services Department*
*ACB probe reveals 109 candidates selected despite securing lower marks than cut-off-marks*
*5 siblings from Budgam, relatives of officials F& ES department, candidates from same localities selected*
KNO Correspondent
Srinagar, Jan 02 (KNO): What could spark an outrage over recruitment process in Jammu & Kashmir, an investigation by the Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) has revealed that 109 candidates secured lower marks than the cutoff marks in the job test for the Fire & Emergency Services in 2020, but were selected by showing them to have secured higher marks in the final selection list than the marks actually secured by them.
The ACB also found that five real brothers from Budgam district, along with relatives of officials from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department and candidates from the same localities, figured in the selection list.
In an official handout, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the ACB said that a manual review of the OMR sheets vis-a-vis answer keys revealed discrepancies in the selection process.
“Out of 690 selected candidates, 109 were found to have secured lower marks than the cutoff marks, but were selected by showing them to have secured higher marks in the final selection list than the marks actually secured by them. For instance, candidates actually securing 11, 17, 24 marks were shown to have secured 90 marks each in the final selection list,” it said.
The ACB said it found that five real brothers from district Budgam were selected and multiple such instances, besides, selection of some relatives of officials of Fire &Emergency Services Department, and the instances of the selected candidates belonging to the same localities have surfaced during the course of enquiry.
According to the ACB, during the course of the probe, the question papers were found beyond the comprehension of candidates who have studied upto 8th standard. (Minimum q)

I am writing on behalf of qualified candidates from Jammu and Kashmir who have completed their education in fire technology and safety, holding B.Tech and Master's degrees in this specialized field. Despite our advanced qualifications and the growing need for fire safety professionals in our region, we have observed a significant lack of appropriate job opportunities within the fire services sector.
It is disheartening to note that no posts are available for individuals with our specialized education and skills in the current recruitment drives or existing organizational structures. This situation not only undermines our professional growth and contributions but also limits the potential for enhancing fire safety measures in Jammu and Kashmir, which are critical for the safety and well-being of its residents.
In light of this, we humbly request the honarable LG to consider the following:
1.Creation of Dedicated Posts: Establish specific posts within the fire services in Jammu and Kashmir that require the expertise of candidates with B.Tech and Master's degrees in fire and safety.
2.Inclusion in Recruitment Drives: Ensure that upcoming recruitment drives for fire services include vacancies that can be filled by highly qualified professionals from the field of fire and safety.
3.Enhancement of Fire Safety Infrastructure: By leveraging the advanced knowledge and skills of fire and safety graduates, significantly improve the fire safety infrastructure and protocols within Jammu and Kashmir.
Our qualifications equip us with comprehensive knowledge of fire prevention, risk management, emergency response, and safety regulations, which are indispensable for modern and effective fire service operations. By creating appropriate posts for us, the government would not only be providing employment opportunities but also significantly contributing to the safety and resilience of our region.
We look forward to your positive response and are hopeful for prompt action in this regard

“(QRV,s) Quick Response Fire tenders vehicles provided under JTFRP have been found to be very effective in controlling the fire incidents in congested urban areas where lanes are often narrow and normal fire tenders find it hard to reach the accident spot” said Senior Divisional Officer of the F&ES Dept. He said these vehicles are equipped with latest dual fire dousing systems which are equally potent in controlling all the types of fires using water jets or foam sprays depending on the type of fire.
