On request of MEU and CC members of GMCS, a Training Workshop was organised for 2nd MBBS Teachers for the AETCOM sessions. All were motivated to learn how to inculcate AETCOM Skills in MBBS students.
47 teachers of 2nd MBBS especially from Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine attended along with some clinical branch teachers. All participated in the interactive sessions enthusiastically.
After introducing AETCOM Module, Dr. Ritambhara Mehta, Professor and Head Psychiatry, emphasized the importance and need for this area, which can increase client satisfaction and prevent litigations.
Dr. Abhay Kavishvar, Dr. Mayur Jarag and many more shared their experiences as Caregiver during Healthcare needs of their family or friends. Some had good experiences but for many they were distressing, not upto the expectations, violating the rights and even having gross communication problems. The message was home with these animated sharing, that there needs to be deliberations, discussions, teachings and Guidelines for doctors and would be doctors.
Dr. Pooja Shatadal, Assistant Professor Psychiatry, elaborated on module 2.6 with a case scenario, Exploring Autonomy vs Beneficence, Capacity and Competency in Healthcare decision making. Teachers engaged in the debate.
Dr. Disha Vasavada, Assistant Professor Psychiatry, elaborated on module 2.8 of on What does it mean to be a family member of a sick person. Audience identified the need areas of a Caregiver, I.e. Illness related, Finance related, Hospital facilities related and Caregiver role related. The Healthcare professionals must address these areas effectively in their interaction, along with high Ethical standards, positive hopeful approach, knowledge of related legal frameworks, non judgemental attitude and Empathy.
Dr. Kamlesh Dave, Associate Professor Psychiatry, at the end, lightened the atmosphere with his light-hearted session on Empathic Communication.
Many teaching-learning Techniques were discussed throughout the workshop. All were asked to work on their session plans of 8 AETCOM modules.
