Sharkaphung Village reportedly came under attack by Kuki militants in broad daylight, creating fear, tension, and panic among the villagers. According to local sources, the militants were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons and carried out the attack openly during the daytime, causing serious concern among the local residents and surrounding areas. The sound of gunfire reportedly spread fear throughout the village, forcing villagers to remain alert and anxious as the already fragile security situation in the region continued to deteriorate. The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of innocent civilians living in conflict-affected areas and the repeated threats faced by Naga villages.
Following the attack, Central Forces reportedly attempted to enter Sharkaphung Village to conduct a combing operation. However, the forces allegedly tried to enter the village without the knowledge or prior information of the Village Authority of Sharkaphung Village, which further intensified confusion and concern among the villagers. Local residents questioned why proper communication and coordination were not maintained with the Village Authority before attempting to carry out operations inside the village, especially during such a sensitive situation following an armed attack.
In response to the situation, Leingangching and Sharkaphung Sinao Long intervened and stopped the Central Forces from entering Sharkaphung Village in an effort to de-escalate the situation and maintain peace within the village. Their intervention was reportedly intended to prevent further panic, misunderstanding, or any possible confrontation inside the village area. Many villagers feared that the sudden entry of security forces without prior consultation with the Village Authority could lead to additional tension and unrest among civilians who were already traumatised by the earlier attack.
The incident has triggered widespread anger, disappointment, and distrust among many local residents toward the Central Forces and the Central Government. Many people have openly stated that they no longer trust the Central Forces, alleging that repeated incidents of violence, delayed responses, and the continued insecurity faced by innocent villagers have failed to provide confidence or protection to the people of the region. Public sentiment in many areas has grown increasingly critical, with strong voices demanding the removal of Central Forces from Manipur, claiming that their presence has not brought peace, stability, or justice to the affected communities.
