National Institute of Technology Goa Welcome to the Official page of the National Institute of Technology Goa. This social mix enhances the students' ability to accept diversity in environment.

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are prestigious engineering and technology oriented colleges in India, and 'NIT Goa' is one of the new member of this family. National Institute of Technology, Goa is among the 10 new NITs commissioned by the central Government in 2009, recently set up at the Goa Engineering College (GEC) campus, Farmagudi, Ponda and mentored by NIT-K Surathkal, one of

the top NITs in India. This Institution shares the common goal of the NITs to provide equal and ample opportunities for students to realize their full potential. It is being regarded among the fastest growing new NITs, and the only NIT to be set up in the state of allocation. Typical to NITs, NIT Goa has students from all over India, with around 50% of the seats reserved for students from Goa. The National Institutes of Technology are autonomous institutions of great repute, funded by the Central Government. 17 Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) were elevated to the status of Institutions of National Importance and renamed as the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in 2002 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to satisfy the growing demand of Engineering Education with quality along the lines of the reputed Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). As of today, India has 30 NITs who have, since their founding, continued to grow in stature and quality. Aims: The basic aims for the setting up of NITs was to develop the quality of technical education locally within each state in India, and to raise the standards of engineering students to meet up with the demands of the modern world. Admissions: Students are admitted to the NITs through CCB Counselling based on their merit in the All India Engineering Entrance Examinations (AIEEE). Over 15 Lakh (1.5 million) students apply for the AIEEE every year, and only the top 20,000 to 30,000 candidates fill in the seats to the NITs.
