HPCL deeply mourns the tragic and untimely demise of Shri Mahesh Shelke, Manager (RS), Nanded North RSA, IndianOil Corporation Limited.

His dedication and service to the energy sector will be remembered with respect. His untimely passing is a profound loss to his family, colleagues and the wider energy fraternity.

We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at IndianOil and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May they find strength in one another and solace in his cherished memory.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Energy Leaders.

The second edition of HPCL’s Masterclass Series continued with its second session, bringing together students from leading IITs, IIMs, NITs and premier institutions across India for an engaging conversation around “Fueling the Future: Careers in India’s Energy Transition.”

Led by Shri K. S. Shetty, Director – Human Resources, HPCL, the session explored India’s evolving energy landscape and the opportunities emerging across technology, engineering, management, analytics, sustainability, policy and business.

The discussion highlighted how innovation, digitalisation, renewable energy, advanced storage and green hydrogen are transforming the sector, while young talent can play a pivotal role in shaping this transition.

An engaging exchange of ideas and perspectives, the session reinforced the importance of industry–academia collaboration in preparing the next generation of energy leaders.

Director – Refineries, HPCL, Shri S. Bharathan, participated in the 85th CSIR Foundation Day Celebrations in New Delhi, sharing industry perspectives at the CSIR–Industry Leadership Dialogue on “Celebrating Partnerships for Technology Translation and Economic Growth.”

Speaking at the session on “The Dual Transition: Securing India’s Energy Future While Decarbonising,” he highlighted the importance of strong industry–research partnerships in addressing India’s growing energy needs while advancing towards a lower-carbon future.

The dialogue brought into focus the need to translate scientific innovation into scalable, technology-led industrial solutions, strengthen collaboration between research institutions and industry, and accelerate the deployment of technologies that can enable a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem.

The session also highlighted how operational excellence, innovation and robust industry–academia collaboration will be critical in navigating India’s dual transition and shaping a more self-reliant, secure and sustainable energy future.

Better access to finance can open the door to bigger opportunities for the CBG ecosystem. GOBARdhan’s credit guarantee support helps eligible MSME-based CBG projects access institutional finance and reduce financing barriers, enabling greater participation and investment in the sector. 🌱

With credit guarantee coverage of up to 85%, support of up to ₹20 crore for general MSMEs and ₹25 crore for women-led MSMEs, the initiative can help strengthen the CBG value chain while encouraging sustainable entrepreneurship and growth.

More CBG on the road starts with assured demand. GOBARdhan creates a structured demand framework for CBG by progressively increasing the mandatory blending obligation for CNG (Transport) and PNG (Domestic). 🌿

With the blending obligation moving from 3% in FY 2026–27 to 4% in FY 2027–28 and 5% from FY 2028–29 onwards, the initiative supports a stronger demand outlook for CBG and contributes to India’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy.

From lab bench to real-world readiness: the true test of any battery innovation.

HPCL's indigenous sodium-ion battery programme spans the full development chain, from material development and cell engineering to performance validation and safety testing. The aim is a viable alternative to conventional lithium-ion systems.
Why sodium-ion? Sodium is abundant, which opens the way to cost-effective, scalable energy storage and less reliance on imported critical lithium minerals.

Starting from a novel cathode material, the team has built 10 Ah pouch cells and 1.2 Ah cylindrical (18650) cells. These have delivered 85% capacity retention over 900 cycles at 1C.
