The college was founded in 2007-2008 as an academic educational establishment to nurture and encourage Kurdish students who are excellent at mathematics and science. It is the first secondary school for gifted students in Kurdistan. During the last few years, because of the important role of science for future of the country, a group of supervisors and teachers suggested that the Ministry of Educa
tion open up selective program to nurture talented and gifted students and to encourage them to follow science in their later years at universities and profession. During 2007-2008 a class for gifted students was inaugurated and the first class opened up for 11 students meticulously chosen from hundreds of primary pupils in Hawler. A gifted student is a student who demonstrates a high degree of intellectual and/or creative ability, exhibits an exceptionally high degree of motivation, and/or excels in specific academic fields, and who needs special instructions and/or special ancillary services to achieve at levels commensurate with his or her abilities. Motto/ mission
Our mission is to take some students and provide them with higher learning opportunities and a special program for the talented and gifted students so as to make them be ready to join colleges/ universities of their choices. Education model
The students are organized into specialized streams in one of the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. Each stream is offered an accelerated curriculum on the subject of specialization. Seminars are held periodically during the school academic year, at which students can discuss their subject with others. Distinguished students should be referred to study with science teachers by the school. The students are also encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities including playing sports or going camping to develop the spiritual and physical growth. Teaching Staff
QCGS has an experienced, well-qualified and highly respected team of teachers, both in the subjects of specialization and languages. QCGS mainly depends on university teachers especially those who have PhD and Master degree in science. Alongside with them there are assistant teachers for each subject. Admission
The college's entrance examinations are held annually in June. Candidates must take more than four compulsory papers in: mathematics, science, general information, drawing, personality, lines and etc… These exams are highly competitive and often require good logical reasoning. Candidates can be determined by classroom teachers, principals, parents and others who have knowledge of the student's abilities and intellectual functioning. And those students who score 100% (full marks) at science and mathematics are automatically eligible for participation in the college entrance examination.
