Do you know the FAI Memoriale Brion?
Nestled in the Treviso countryside, with the Asolo Hills as its backdrop, this monumental funerary complex stands on the edge of the village of San Vito d’Altivole, adjoining its small cemetery. Visitors enter through a monumental gateway, known as the propylea, distinguished by a striking opening formed by two interlocking circles-a symbol of conjugal love that lies at the heart of the entire design.
Inside, a 2,200-square-metre site unfolds, raised above the surrounding landscape and enclosed by a gently sloping wall that frames views of the countryside beyond.
Across lawns dotted with greenery and crossed by canals and lily-covered pools, arranged in geometric patterns inspired by Islamic paradises and Japanese gardens, stand four architectural structures. At the centre of the complex is the arcosolium: a low arch-bridge in concrete, lined on the inside with shimmering glass mosaic tesserae backed with gold leaf. It shelters the sarcophagi of Giuseppe and Onorina Brion, intentionally tilted toward one another, symbolizing their eternal bond and enduring love.
