I want to give a major thank you to my 2026 Summer Interns! I am tremendously grateful for the work you all have done in my office and around our district this summer and I am so excited to see and support all of your future endeavors!

I’m still on a high from yesterday’s ceremony celebrating the signing of the John R. Lewis Voter Empowerment Act of New Jersey.

After four long years of advocacy, perseverance, and partnership, this historic legislation is now law. Again, I extend my deepest gratitude to Governor Mikie Sherrill for signing this bill and affirming New Jersey’s commitment to protecting the fundamental right to vote.

I am especially grateful to Senator Shirley K. Turner, my partner and the Senate sponsor of this legislation, for her unwavering leadership throughout this journey. I also thank every advocacy organization, coalition partner and community leader who worked tirelessly alongside us to make this day possible.

This victory belongs to everyone who refused to give up. Together, we have strengthened voting rights and helped ensure that every New Jersey voter has a fair and equal opportunity to make their voice heard.

Four years. Countless meetings, hearings, conversations and moments when giving up would have been easier.

But we never stopped fighting.

On July 2, signed the John R. Lewis Voter Empowerment Act into law.

This is the story of how we got here.

As a Black woman, I know that too many Black women continue to earn less because of both racial and gender discrimination. I also know that every paycheck matters because it affects our ability to buy a home, build wealth, save for retirement, and create opportunities for our families. I strongly believe every woman deserves to be paid based on her skills, and experience. That is why I will continue fighting to remove barriers, create equal opportunities, and make sure every woman has the chance to succeed and receive equal pay for her equal work.

No more “spring forward” or “fall back”?

I’ve introduced legislation that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent in New Jersey ending the twice-a-year clock changes that disrupt our routines along Senator Shirley K. Turner.

More evening daylight can support mental wellness, encourage outdoor activity, strengthen community engagement, and help families make the most of their time together. While federal action is still required before states can make this change permanent, we’re taking the steps necessary to ensure New Jersey is ready.
