Happy Mother’s Day from the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO).

Today, we proudly celebrate all the mothers, guardians, and mother figures among our members who faithfully serve their communities while nurturing and caring for their families. Your strength, sacrifice, compassion, and dedication do not go unnoticed.

Balancing public service and the responsibilities of motherhood is no easy task, yet you continue to do so with grace and resilience every day. Thank you for the invaluable role you play both at work and at home.

On this International Firefighters Day, the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) extends heartfelt gratitude to our nation’s firefighters, dedicated men and women who stand on the front line of public safety with courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment.

We recognise the critical role you play as essential public emergency service workers, particularly during times of national crisis.

During Hurricane Melissa, your bravery and tireless response efforts were a powerful reminder of your indispensable service to communities across Jamaica. You answered the call without hesitation, often at great personal risk, to protect lives, property, and the resilience of our people.

We take note that even in answering the call, firefighters lost their homes among other challenges but still worked in service of others, a commitment of service above self.

Today, we honour your sacrifice and reaffirm our commitment to advocating on your behalf, for improved working conditions, adequate resources, and the recognition you rightfully deserve.

Your service does not go unnoticed, and your contributions remain vital to the strength and safety of our nation.

On behalf of JALGO, thank you for your continued dedication and service.

Respect and appreciation always.

Workers Day 2026

The Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) joins the rest of the world in observing International Workers’ Day, a moment of reflection on the struggles, achievements, and enduring contributions of workers everywhere.

This day stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those before us who fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the fundamental rights many now enjoy.

It also underscores the ongoing responsibility we all share to protect and advance these gains in the face of evolving workplace challenges.

We take this opportunity to call on all workers, particularly those within local government, to become more active and engaged in their unions.

We look at the roles and impact of workers during times such as the passage of Hurricane Melissa and know how critical workers are to any country.

Strong unions are built on the participation, solidarity, and collective voice of their members. Your involvement is essential in shaping policies, defending workers’ rights, and ensuring that the dignity of labour is upheld at every level.

JALGO commits to engage with you the different issues and matters that you bring forward and look forward to building together, stronger.

As we commemorate International Workers’ Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to unity, advocacy, and progress. Together, through active participation and shared purpose, we can continue to build a stronger, fairer future for all workers.

Last night, the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers held a webinar which focused on the
Sexual Harassment (Protection and Prevention) Act, 2021.

Over two hours, officers, delegates and members, were edified about the law and what it means for sexual harassment in the workplace.

We are indeed grateful to our presenter, Jahmealla Romance, Sexual Harassment Investigative Officer, from the Bureau of Gender Affairs.

We are also grateful to the members who joined on and engaged in this very topical conversation.

International Women’s Day Message
From the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers

Today, on International Women’s Day, the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) proudly celebrates the remarkable women who contribute daily to the progress being made across the workplace in local government, the public service and working generally.

We celebrate this year's event under the United Nations theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,”.

This calls on us to reaffirm our commitment to equality, fairness, and meaningful opportunities for women everywhere, not only in Jamaica but across the region and the world at large.

It reminds us that progress is achieved not only through words, but through deliberate action that empowers women to lead, innovate, thrive and be partners in the push to make the decent work agenda a reality.

Across our municipalities and the various departments that JALGO represents the interests of workers, women continue to play vital roles in shaping effective governance, strengthening institutions, and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Their dedication, resilience, and leadership enrich our workplaces and inspire the next generation of public servants.

JALGO therefore extends heartfelt appreciation to all the women who have served and contributed to the world of work. Your contributions, professionalism, and commitment to excellence help drive sustainable development and foster inclusive communities.

Today, we celebrate your achievements, acknowledge your impact, and reaffirm our support for a workplace where every woman is respected, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Happy International Women’s Day.
