SwallowTENT

SwallowTENT "What is TENT?" Where adults meet. Where we exchange ideas about life and our Christian Faith. We fellowship. We debate. Adults, we welcome you!

Email [email protected] for more information. TENT is a ministry of Swallowfield Chapel for young adults, aged about 19-30 ish, and is open to Christians and non Christians, Swallows and non-swallows alike. TENT facilitates the meeting of young adults to discuss life and the Christian faith. It allows for exploration of active Christian living and aims to provide a safe, supportive and enjoya

ble avenue towards wholesome Christian growth. It is our ultimate aim that through TENT young adults will appreciate what it means to walk in their identity and role in Christ. We are all TENTs – the vessels in which the Holy Spirit dwells and we carry His Spirit wherever we go and through us the Lord God is able to reach many. In order to meet the perceived needs of young adults, TENT facilitates different activities or directs young adults to accessible and helpful resources. There are three main ways in which we meet these needs, namely: TENT Meetings, the development of Young Adult Specific Small Groups and TENT Events. Each of these is unique in style of delivery, size of gathering and in the needs they aim to meet. Currently, TENT Meetings are held monthly. These meetings encourage fellowship among young adults and are geared to an awakening of their hearts and minds to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, evoking within them a desire to seek Him. This awakening will be created in the context of fellowship around Christ-centred activities. TENT Meetings take place at different venues from month to month depending on the vision and purpose of each meeting. One of TENT’s primary goals is for young adults to see God and the application of his Word in the world around them. God has created us with the need for community and socialization and so in addition to having a great emphasis on promoting sustainable Christian fellowship among peers, TENT recognizes and aims to provide a much needed social space free from the secular bombardments of everyday living. Growth is multifaceted and personal growth often happens in the context of intimate times of sharing and fellowship. TENT is aware of this and it is our desire to partner with the Church in creating Young Adult Specific Small Groups which will focus on the laying and building of our foundation in Jesus Christ through the study of the Bible and more intimate fellowship with the body of Christ, His Church. These groups are home groups comprising 7-15 persons meeting in someone’s home on a weekly basis. While TENT hopes that our members will attend these groups, we encourage them to visit and participate in other small groups facilitated through their local church. Periodically there will also be TENT Events. These will take different forms, such as sporting activities, other recreational activities, evangelical opportunities, outreach missions or otherwise. TENT will aim to undertake and implement these activities in a culturally relevant and engaging manner. The objective of these events will vary according to the perceived needs of the young adults with the aim to promote spiritual and personal maturity.

‘Encounter Culture' (www.godcentred.org)

We are living in a time where Christianity is increasingly not being considered the norm in society; cultural Christianity is on the decline. People are discrediting the authority of the bible as the word of God and Christians are being labeled as 'Bigots'. The consequence of this is that it is increasingly becoming difficult for Christians to engage the culture.

The 2016 conference is geared at helping Christians to respond biblically to the shift in our culture. We recognize that believers will be tempted to respond in some unbiblical ways, like conforming to the culture or retreating from it, or even taking a triumphalist approach in their engagement. However, this is our mandate: to embrace the strangeness of our identity as the people of God rather than conform, move forward boldly as salt and light instead of retreating, and we are to do so wisely and humbly, not as a triumphalists.
