.cllr on Saturday June 6, 2026 officially welcomed members of the 26th Annual Medical and Education Mission during a Meet and Greet Reception held at the in Montego Bay.

The mission team, made up of over 80 volunteers from various parts of the United States, will spend the next week serving communities across Western Jamaica through medical outreach, educational support, scholarships, school supplies, appliances and other forms of assistance aimed at improving the lives of students and families.

Medical teams will be deployed across several sections of the western parishes, while students from different communities will benefit from scholarship opportunities and educational support initiatives.

Mayor Vernon also specially recognized JAAC President, Mr. Patrick Williams, for his continued contribution and commitment to the mission over the years.

While in Jamaica, the volunteers will not only serve communities through outreach programmes, but will also experience the island’s rich culture, beauty and hospitality by visiting several attractions and locations across the region.

Mayor Vernon thanked the team for choosing Jamaica once again and commended their continued dedication to service, compassion and community development.

Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, , proudly represented .cllr, at the official ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of Montego Bay branch on Friday, June 6, 2026 at the Nnatt’s Complex in Fairview.

Also in attendance was President of the , , along with other specially invited guests and stakeholders from the business community.

.cllr, has given craft traders at the Harbour Street Craft Market a firm commitment that the shops destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Melissa last year will be rebuilt by the .

Speaking during a meeting with vendors at the on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Mayor Vernon announced that work to restore the 13 damaged shops is expected to begin shortly.

The Mayor also listened to and noted the concerns raised by the vendors, emphasizing that the Corporation remains committed to addressing the issues affecting the market through short, medium, and long term development plans.

On Friday, June 5, 2026, .cllr proudly participated in the Mayor’s Proclamation and Handing Over Ceremony held at Mt. Alvernia High Campus, where it was officially announced that October 4 will be observed as Mt. Alvernia Chetwood Day as part of the institution’s centennial celebrations under the theme, “A Century of Stars | Illuminating the Future.”

During the ceremony, Mayor Vernon delivered the Proclamation Address and officially handed over the proclamation in recognition of the school’s outstanding contribution to education, leadership, discipline and nation building over the past 100 years.

The Mayor commended the administration, staff, students, alumni and supporters of Mt. Alvernia for preserving a proud legacy rooted in faith, service and academic excellence while continuing to inspire future generations.

“Institutions like Mt. Alvernia High School continue to shape the future of Montego Bay and Jamaica through strong values, quality education and community spirit. Reaching 100 years is not only a milestone, it is a legacy,” Mayor Vernon shared.

“The future of Jamaica will be shaped by how we treat our environment today.”

.cllr, was honoured to participate in the Environmental Expo hosted by the at the on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The expo brought together bright young minds from schools across Western Jamaica, alongside passionate entrepreneurs and innovators who are finding creative ways to protect the environment while building sustainable businesses.

Before joining the panel discussion, Mayor Vernon toured the exhibition floor, meeting with exhibitors, listening to their ideas, and encouraging the continued push toward a cleaner, greener and more responsible Jamaica.

The Mayor emphasized that environmental protection is not only the responsibility of governments and agencies, but a shared mission that requires the involvement of every citizen, especially the younger generation who will inherit the future of the country.

He praised the students for their curiosity and engagement, noting that meaningful change begins with education, awareness and action.

“Montego Bay must continue to lead by example as we work together to build communities that are cleaner, healthier, more organized and sustainable for generations to come.”

On Labour Day 2026, .cllr, continued his parish wide tour of community projects with a visit to , where major transformation work was taking place at the school through a partnership involving and .

The initiative went beyond simple repairs and included several improvement projects aimed at creating a safer, cleaner and more welcoming environment for the more than 1,100 students cared for by the institution each day. Activities included the development of a lay by, the beautification of garden spaces, painting works, and general upgrades to improve the overall surroundings of the school community.

Guided by the school’s motto, “Only the Best is Good Enough,” staff, volunteers, sponsors and community members came together with a shared commitment to investing in the future of the children and the wider community.

Mayor Vernon commended the collaborative effort and expressed appreciation to all partners and volunteers who contributed their time, resources and energy toward the initiative. He noted that projects like these are critical not only for improving infrastructure, but also for uplifting the morale of students and creating spaces where young people can feel inspired, protected and valued.

Promises made. Promises kept.

Following a community consultation held on May 14, 2026 at the , .cllr, returned on Labour Day with residents, stakeholders and partners to officially eradicate the illegal dump site affecting the Sunvalley and Robert Reid Drive communities.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with , saw the area fully cleared, properly fenced and equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor illegal dumping activities. The cameras are expected to assist authorities in identifying and prosecuting persons who continue to litter the area.

Mayor Vernon noted that the project represents more than just a cleanup effort. It is part of a wider mission to restore pride, dignity and order within communities across Montego Bay while improving public health and the overall quality of life for residents.

“This is about creating a cleaner, safer and more dignified environment for the people of Glendevon and surrounding communities.”

The Office of the Mayor extends sincere appreciation to the residents, WPM and all stakeholders who came together to make the project a success and continue working towards a cleaner and stronger Montego Bay.

Throwback to Labour Day 2026 as .cllr, made his way across the parish visiting several Labour Day projects that received support through partnerships and sponsorships he helped to secure.

One of the stops was , where the Mayor expressed his happiness at seeing the ongoing restoration work taking place at the school following the severe damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Through the generous support of and , sponsorship valued at over $1.5 million was secured to assist with the rehabilitation efforts and help restore a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.

The school community expressed deep appreciation for the support and partnership shown during this important time of recovery.

Mayor Vernon noted that rebuilding communities is not only about infrastructure, but about restoring hope, opportunity and stability for the people who depend on these institutions every day.
