Occasionally, Sailors and Marines assigned to Camp Fuji have an opportunity to volunteer with Japanese students.

Last week, volunteers helped students with their English skills, helping them to navigate a nearby neighborhood in what is called an English Walk Rally.

Students' school administrators coordinate with the national Chuo Youth Center and when the timing is right, Camp Fuji service members help out. Mission always comes first, Marines and Sailors are not able to accommodate every request.

Volunteering with Japanese students during English Walk Rallies and English Camps are some of the most popular community relations activities Camp Fuji members participate in.

先週、キャンプ富士の海兵隊員および水兵がイングリッシュ・ウォークラリーを支援しました。このイベントは御殿場市にある国立中央青少年交流の家における校外学習の一環で行われたものです。

隊員たちはルートの分岐点や英語の質問が書かれたマップを見ながら、中学1年の生徒さんたちと一緒に約5キロのコースを歩きました。

生徒たちは道端に咲いている花や松ぼっくり、信号機や横断歩道を英語で何と言うのかなど、ウォークラリーならではの英単語を教わっていました。

イングリッシュ・ウォークラリーやイングリッシュ・キャンプのような英語学習に貢献できるボランティア活動は、キャンプ富士隊員らの間でとても人気があります。
