On July 25, we held the International Salon [Orientation to Daily Life and Cultural Exchange Event] at the Sagamihara International Lounge.
During the [Orientation to Daily Life] portion of the event, we introduced useful information for your day-to-day life. For example, we discussed topics such as how to throw your garbage, disaster prevention measures, and where you can find Japanese classes. There were also a bit more complicated topics such as the new blue ticket system that was implemented earlier this April and how starting this October, there will be new rules on how to separate your garbage. Even when some of the topics were too complicated, with the help of interpreters sitting beside them, they were able participate and ask questions freely.
During the [Cultural Exchange Event], we listened to a Tsugaru Jamisen performance.
Tsugaru Jamisen is a Japanese string instrument that uses a pick called ‘bachi’. Hearing the powerful ben-ben! sound in the beginning gave participants a shocked look, however, as they got accustomed to the loud sound, participants began clapping and even chanting Choi-choi!, Yasho-makasho!, Hai-hai, and Dokkoisho! to the beat. The Tsugaru Jamisen was much heavier than its appearance suggested. It produced a loud, powerful sound by playing the strings almost as if striking them with the ‘bachi’. Actually coming here to see it, hear it, and touch it made it a genuine hands-on experience of Japanese culture.
At the International Salon, we hope to share useful information to foreign residents and to create a place where they can connect and interact. 7月25日（土）さがみはら国際交流ラウンジで、International Salon『生活ガイダンス＆文化体験』を開催しました。
前半の「生活ガイダンス」では、外国人市民の皆さんの生活に役立つ情報を紹介しました。たとえば、「ごみの出し方」や「防災（ぼうさい）」について、日本語教室の紹介など、です。4月に始まった「自転車の反則金制度（青切符）」や、10月から変わる「資源とごみの分別方法」など、複雑な話もありましたが、今回はとなりに通訳の人がいて分からないこともすぐに質問できるので、みなさんリラックスをして参加していたようです。
後半の「文化体験」では、「津軽三味線（つがるじゃみせん）」の演奏をききました。
津軽三味線は、日本の弦楽器でバチを使って演奏します。「ベンベンッ」という力強い響きに、はじめは驚いた顔をしていた参加者でしたが、音の大きさに慣れてくると、歌と演奏に合わせて手拍子をして「チョイチョイ！」「ヤッショー、マカショ」や「ハイハイ！」「ドッコイショ」など、みんなで掛け声を合わせて楽しみました。見た目よりもずっしり重い津軽三味線。バチで叩くように弾いて出す大きな音。実際に、来て見てきいて触って分かる、日本文化体験になりました。
