オーチャード中佐は、令和６年春に着任以来、自衛艦隊司令部と緊密に連携し、日米同盟の深化及び日米共同運用能力の強化に大きく寄与されました。
自衛艦隊は、司令官からスタッフレベル、現場部隊に至るまで平素から米海軍と緊密に連携し共に行動することであらゆる事態への即応態勢を維持するとともに我が国の防衛及びインド太平洋地域の平和と安定に貢献しています。

On 19 August, VADM OMACHI Katsushi, Commander, Self Defense Fleet presented a letter of commendation to CDR Andrew L. ORCHARD, U.S. 7th Fleet.
Since spring 2024, as a staff officer of the U.S. 7th Fleet, he made significant contributions to the enhancement of the U.S.-Japan alliance as well as interoperability between the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the U.S. Navy.
The Self Defense Fleet will continue to work closely with the U.S. Navy, from the commander to the staff and unit levels, and act together to maintain readiness and immediately respond to any contingencies, contributing to the defense of Japan and peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.

８月８日（土）、護衛艦「おおなみ」及び海上自衛隊のＳＨ－６０Ｋは、相模湾において、インドネシア海軍フリゲート艦「イ・グスティ・ングラ・ライ」とともに日尼共同訓練を実施しました。
インドネシアは、ＡＳＥＡＮでリーダーシップを発揮する域内の大国であり、我が国と基本的価値を原則共有する包括的・戦略的パートナーです。本訓練を通じて、海上自衛隊の戦術技量の向上及びインドネシア海軍との連携の強化を図りました。
自衛艦隊は、即応態勢を維持し、我が国の防衛のみならず、「自由で開かれたインド太平洋」の実現に向けて、同盟国・同志国海軍と協働して、インド太平洋地域の平和と安定に寄与しています。

On August 8, JS Oonami and a SH-60K from the JMSDF conducted a Japan-Indonesia bilateral exercise with the Indonesian Navy frigate KRI “I Gusti Ngurah Rai” in Sagami Bay.
Indonesia is a major regional power that exercises leadership in ASEAN and is a comprehensive and strategic partner that shares fundamental values with Japan in principle. Through the exercise, the JMSDF enhanced its tactical capabilities and strengthened cooperation with the Indonesian Navy.

出国行事においては、概ね３か月の行動に従事する隊員を激励するとともに、本派遣に対しご理解・ご支援をいただく隊員のご家族・ご友人に感謝の意を伝える重要な機会となりました。
自衛艦隊は、即応態勢を維持し、我が国の防衛のみならず、「自由で開かれたインド太平洋」の実現に向けて、同盟国・同志国海軍と協働して、インド太平洋地域の平和と安定に寄与しています。

On August 9, Commander, Self-Defense Fleet participated in the departure ceremony for the 60th dispatch anti-piracy aviation unit at JMSDF Atsugi Base.
During the ceremony, the Commander had a significant opportunity to encourage the personnel embarking on their approximately 3-month mission and to express gratitude to their families and friends for their understanding and support of this deployment.

自衛艦隊司令官は、７月３０日（木）から３１日（金）、大湊地区の海自部隊を訪問し各部隊指揮官等と意見交換を行い、８月１日（土）、派遣海賊対処行動水上部隊第５３次隊 護衛艦「ゆうだち」の帰国行事に参加しました。
部隊訪問においては、指揮官が最前線の情勢を直接把握することで大湊地区における防衛の方向性を確認し、帰国行事においては、約半年間の行動を終えた隊員をねぎらうとともに、本派遣に対するご理解・ご支援をいただいた隊員のご家族・ご友人に感謝の意を伝える重要な機会となりました。

From July 30 through 31, the Commander, Self Defense Fleet visited JMSDF units in the Ominato Area to exchange views with the unit commanders. On August 1, he participated in a homecoming ceremony for a destroyer JS YUDACHI, the 53rd dispatched counter-piracy surface unit.
The visit allowed the Commander to realize the future direction of area defense in Ominato by grasping the situational awareness of the front line firsthand. Furthermore, during the ceremony, he took this significant opportunity to commend the sailors for successfully completing their six-month deployment and to express his gratitude to their families and friends for their understanding of and support to the mission.

On 29 July, VADM OMACHI Katsushi, Commander, Self Defense Fleet presented a letter of commendation to CDR Garry FERGUSON, U.S. 7th Fleet.
Since May 2024, as a staff officer of the U.S. 7th Fleet, he made significant contributions to the advancement of logistics capabilities between the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the U.S. Navy, displaying a strong sense of responsibility, and a wealth of knowledge and experience. In particular, he shared information on the current status and challenges of logistics between Japan and the U.S. in a timely and appropriate manner to Self Defense Fleet. His efforts greatly contributed to the enhancement of our capability to execute effective and efficient operations through close Japan-U.S. cooperation.

On 9 July, RADM Guillaume PINGET, the Commander, French Pacific Command (CPP_FAPF) visited the Maritime Operation Center and had an office call with VADM OMACHI Katsushi, Commander, Self-Defense Fleet.
France is a major power, have influence not only over the Euro-African region but all over the world, and is the only EU member state to possess overseas islands territories in the Indian and Pacific oceans and maintain military presence in the Indo-Pacific. It also historically has had a close relationship with Japan and is positioned as Japan’s special partner. The JMSDF and the French Navy have been conducting joint exercises, primarily in the Indo-Pacific region and the Gulf of Aden, to enhance anti-piracy capabilities and bolster cooperation. During this courtesy call, both parties exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Japan and France for years to come.

６月３０日（火）から７月２日（木）までの間、自衛艦隊先任伍長 佐々木 英徳 准海尉は、ハワイにおいて米海軍主催多国間共同訓練（リムパック２０２６）最上級先任下士官会議に参加しました。
ＲＩＭＰＡＣは、１９７１年からほぼ隔年で実施され、今回で３０回目となります。また、海上自衛隊は１９８０年から参加しており、今回で２４回目の参加となります。会議に際し、今後の関係強化に関する意見交換を行いました。

From June 30 to July 2, 2026, MWO SASAKI Hidenori, Fleet Master Chief, the Self-Defense Fleet participated in a Multilateral Exercise (RIMPAC2026) CSEL (Command Senior Enlisted Leader) Conference hosted by the U.S. Navy in Hawaii.
RIMPAC has been held almost every other year since 1971, and this marks its 30th edition. The JMSDF first participated RIMPAC in 1980, and RIMPAC 2026 marks the 24th iteration for the JMSDF. During this Conference, MWO SASAKI exchanged views on strengthening future cooperation with his counterparts from other participating countries.

On 17 June, a SH-60K from the JMSDF conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise with USCGC “MIDGETT” (USCG) in Sagami Bay.
Under unwavering Japan-U.S. alliance, the JMSDF and the USCG successfully conducted refueling on the flight deck enhancing readiness for contingencies. Through this exercise, the JMSDF improved tactical capabilities and interoperability with the USCG.

On 15 June, His Excellency Ambassador of Spain to Japan and CESEDEN (Centro Superior de Estudios de la Defensa Nacional) delegation visited the Maritime Operation Center and had an office call with VADM OMACHI Katsushi, Commander, Self-Defense Fleet.
Spain is a strategic partner that shares fundamental values with Japan. Japan and Spanish Navy have been carried out joint exercises mainly in the Gulf of Aden to improve the capabilities for anti-piracy and to strengthen cooperation. During this courtesy call, we exchanged views on strengthening our future cooperation.
