"To understand where we are going, we must never forget where we have been."

This week, 41 ATGWP Sailors completed a profound professional development journey to the historic island of Iwo To (formerly Iwo Jima). The team retraced history with a grueling eight-mile hike to the summit of Mount Suribachi, paying their respects at memorials commemorating the service and sacrifice of both U.S. Marine Corps and Japanese soldiers.

This visit was more than a history lesson—it was a powerful reminder of the ultimate cost of conflict and the continuous need for in the Indo-Pacific. Understanding this legacy reinforces the "why" behind the daily pursuit of we demand of ourselves and the crews we train.

Afloat Training Group - Western Pacific (ATGWP)'s expert Explosive Safety Assessors were aboard USS Dewey (DDG 105), conducting vital training and evaluations. The training covered all facets of ordnance safety, from ready service lockers led by Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Andrew Hopson, to torpedo magazine protocols with Chief Gunner’s Mate Philip Stutesman, and magazine sprinkler systems with Chief Gunner’s Mate Adrian Lassiter.

This hands-on verification of critical procedures is a fundamental component of certifying a warship's combat readiness and ensuring the safety of the crew. ATGWP remains focused on ensuring the fleet is ready to execute its mission safely and effectively.

This morning, came together to build that resilience, one push-up at a time. Physical readiness is the bedrock of our ability to operate in demanding environments and train the fleet to the highest standard. A fit force is a lethal force.
