During her visit to Mfang’ano Island, H.E. Governor Gladys Wanga inspected Phase 2 of the Ondoa Kaunda Classroom Project at Kakiimba EYE Center, expanding access to education for the island’s children.

The four newly completed classrooms will significantly enhance learning opportunities for local pupils. Access to quality education remains our priority, and we are committed to building a stronger foundation for our young learners.

By the end of this financial year, we will have constructed 14 EYE Centres across all 25 public schools on the island.

County communication officers and mainstream media representatives have successfully concluded a two-day capacity building workshop on accurate and constructive reporting of the Nurturing Care for Early Childhood Development (NCfECD) framework at Cold Springs Hotel.

The workshop, officially closed by GACD CECM Isaac Ongiri designate, strengthened participants’ skills in championing child-centered storytelling and public awareness on early childhood development.

County Government officials drawn from various departments ended a two-day Public Finance Management (PFM) training workshop at Cold Springs Hotel.

The forum, organized by the County Treasury in partnership with German Development Corporation GIZ under the Good Governance (GoGo) Programme, focused on strengthening accountability, compliance, and effective implementation of audit recommendations to enhance service delivery across the county.

The officials were encouraged to translate the knowledge gained during the workshop into practical actions that will strengthen public financial management system and improve service delivery to residents

In marking World Donkey Day under the theme “Preserve the African Donkey is Our Responsibility,” we partnered with Brooke East Africa and Ripple Effect to take decisive action for rural communities by launching the God Jope Community Livestock Spray Race in Lambwe Ward, Suba North — a modern facility built to serve over 4,000 cattle and 300 donkeys.
Donkeys are the unseen engines of our villages: they till farms, transport water and sustain household incomes where roads and machines can’t reach. By investing in animal health and disease control, we protect not just livestock, but the farmers, women, and youth who depend on them every day.

H.E. the Deputy Governor Hon. Dannish Onyango today represented H.E. Governor Gladys Wanga at the annual BMU Convention. The event also marked the official opening of the County BMU Network SACCO offices.

The County Government and the BMU Network have partnered to co-manage fisheries and lake resources for sustainable fishing and ecosystem conservation. This collaboration has driven significant transformation in the fisheries sector, including the construction of modern fish bandas, improvement of sanitation facilities and effective revenue collection mechanisms, interventions that continue to strengthen livelihoods while advancing Homa Bay’s blue economy agenda.

The countdown to the 3rd Edition of the annual Governors Girls Mentorship Camp, under the patronage ofGovernor Gladys Wangaa, is officially on. This year, we're taking over Ogenya Girls Secondary School on 15th May for a life-changing experience under the theme: Dream. Believe. Achieve.

What started as a bold vision has now become a movement. Over the past two editions, we've seen thousands of girls walk in uncertain and walk out unstoppable.

This year's focus remains on raising a generation of powerful women through mentorship with real-world role models.

Homa Bay County Government, in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross Society, today convened an Interim County Disaster Steering Group (CDSG) meeting to coordinate an urgent, multi-sectoral response to the Kenya Meteorological Department Heavy Rainfall Advisory and the associated downstream flood risks. The high-level forum, led by the County Government of Homa Bay and the County Commissioner, brought together key stakeholders to review the urgent 72-hour weather forecast, identify flood-prone hotspots within the county, and assess emerging threats including downstream flooding and potential backflow from Lake Victoria affecting lakeshore communities. The meeting resolved to activate anticipatory action measures, strengthen early warning systems, and mobilize rapid response resources to safeguard vulnerable populations as heavy rains persist across the region.

Through our partnership with MCGL Jhpiego, we have received a consignment of essential medical equipment valued at approximately KES 21 million, set to strengthen maternal and newborn health services across the county.

From life-saving oxygen support systems and neonatal resuscitation equipment to precision monitoring devices and simulation tools for continuous clinical training, these investments address critical gaps along the continuum of care, from pregnancy and delivery to newborn survival.

This acquisition will enhance the capacity of our health facilities and frontline providers, advancing safer births, timely interventions, and improved outcomes for mothers and babies, while reducing preventable deaths.
