HAPPENING NOW: The official launch of the Restoration and Sustainable Management of the Cherangany Forest Ecosystem Project at Chebara ATC, Elgeyo Marakwet.

The launch is graced by CS, Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Barasa. Also present is the Deputy Ambassador of Italy to Kenya, Dr. Lorenza Gambacorta, alongside the Ag. Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Ms. Valeria Buoninfante.

The 3-year project financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation seeks to restore and rehabilitate the precious but threatened Cherangany Ecosystem transcending West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties to support biodiversity, climate change resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

The initiative is being executed by the National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND) and will be implemented by local partners and community groups.

Project Launch: The Lake Naivasha Basin Ecosystem Management Project

In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry and our partners, we are officially launching the Lake Naivasha Basin Ecosystem Management Project on Monday, 14th April 2025 WRTI Inland Waters and Wetlands Research Centre (Hippo Campsite, Naivasha) from 9 am.

The Chief Guest will be the CS, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah M. Barasa.

The LNBIMP is a 3-year initiative funded by the Global Environment FacilityFacility through the World Wildlife Fund (US) that seeks to restore forest ecosystems & reduce land degradation in the critical but fragile Lake Naivasha Basin Ecosystem transcending Nyandarua and Nakuru Counties

NETFUND CEO held consultative meeting with representatives from the indigenous peoples of the Cherangany Ecosystem. The two sides discussed and agreed on mechanisms to manage social- economic and environmental impacts arising from the implementation of the upcoming Cherangany Ecosystem Restoration Project funded by the Italian Cooperation.

The sides also cordially discussed ways of strengthening engagement and partnership to ensure project sustainability. The CEO was joined by NETFUND’s project and communication team. Also present was Dr. Selly Kimosop, Administration Secretary at the State Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry.

We a thrilled to report that Kenya’s Investment Plan for the Nature, People, and Climate Program has been approved by the Climate Investment Funds (CIF). With $35.66 million in CIF funding and $108 million expected co-financing, the program will advance efforts in landscape restoration & climate adaptation for climate vulnerable communities in Lake Victoria South & Ewaso Ngiro North landscapes.
The development of this pioneer programme, implemented through the African Development Bank and the World Bank Group, was spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry through NETFUND. The NPC programme aligns with government priorities including the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the Medium-Term Development Plan (IV).
