Martin Njoroge Marjo I represent the people of Karuri Ward in Kiambu County Assembly.

No man is a hundred percent perfect. I know I may be poor in playing politics but when it comes to solving community problems I am superb. Just within my 4 yrs of leadership, Karuri shopping centre and Karuri Market are now vibrant again, Karuri hospital is picking up again, Karuri ward is more cleaner today, the serious water shortages in Karuri ward are now almost half solved. Relationship between the community and the security forces has greatly improved. Despite a serious lack of funds for road maintainance in our county, atleast most of our main village roads are now motorable. After a long time, our farmers have started receiving assistance from government and a number of other good things have been coming our way in Karuri ward. The only major problem which remains unresolved is the very high levels of joblessness. And that is my main focus of concentration in the next five years. Getting a solution to joblessness has been my big dream since 2006. I have already laid down an ambitious program of job creation and the Big Community CENTRE that I have been constructing at Karuri near the market is the heart and conner stone of this project. I strongly believe its possible. It just requires concerted efforts of the entire community, dedication and a positive attitude, because in Kenya, resources are in plenty and opportunities are limitless. I will lead the way if you give me the chance and I promise everyone shall be happy with the good results. Mind you, I have never failed in delivering on every promise that I give..

Yes, I may have been too silent, BUT, its a fact that Ite Dam in Kiambaa has been in existence since colonial time as the people of Kiambaa suffered an acute water problem. Today, the dam is providing a lot of drinking water to the people of Kiambaa and upper Waguthu through huge water cleansing machine with the help of donors.
These and 4 other milestones in just 4yrs. Now, will you forgive me for being silent?

YES, I may have been too silent, BUT its a fact that, since 1963, so many leaders who have been elected to serve the people of Karuri Ward knew and were always reminded of the great need of a community meeting place but have never built one. I have brought in Karuri not only a communityl hall but also a library, a meeting place for our elders (thingira) each for men and women and talent rooms for youth.

YES, I may have been too silent during my term as a leader as many people are accusing me. However, since 2005, many leaders who have come before me, including councilors and MPs, had been promising Karuri Market traders a new market at Karuri but never delivered. I am the one who did it.

Hey pals. I usually go thru Facebook posts of my Ward people once in a while. Whenever anybody from Karuri writes on any of our walls, rest assured, even if I don’t comment, I have seen it. I noted an issue raised by Johnweezy Mwas about police harassment, I can’t suppress the urge to comment on this one.
Before we came into leadership, i.e before 2013, young people in the whole of Kiambaa Sub-county and especially the jobless were living lives similar to antelopes. They couldn’t concentrate for a minute without looking behind, sideways and around them for any unfamiliar faces coming towards them. It didn’t matter what time of day, whether you were going shopping, to a chemist, alighting a matatu, going to work or going home. U were ever prepared to run for dear life. Being arrested and tied with ropes. It was worse than life of apartheid.
I don’t credit myself for an end to that type of life because we did it in conjunction with other leaders, but I was categorical that there were no two ways about it. It had to stop. Period. It didn’t matter what some gave as excuses of insecurity but we cant have people living like hunted deer in their own country. And we all knew what motivated those arrests.
Surprisingly, when it stopped, we had a marked improvement of security from 2014 onwards, when relationship between the community and the security forces started improving.
I want to assure Johnweezy Mwas and all those who expressed their anger on a resumption of arbitrary arrest that, It will not happen again. Not when I will be in office. And that, even before you posted, I had started receiving such information from some guys. I had rushed to meet with the security people to make sure we wont in NO WAY slide back to those infamous years. Our Kiambaa Deputy County Commissioner, our new Kiambaa OCPD, and other arms of security including the Community policing Committee are all agreed that we will all maintain peace without harassment of innocent people. But we must all assist one another to make sure we don’t slide back. By being on the look out and standing up for our rights with firmness.
However my people, we also know our area is a crime prone area, and if there is a relaxing of security monitoring, this place would be uninhabitable. Serious arrests got to be made, or even occasional swops, because we can never allow some of us (read Quails and other gangs) to ruin the peace of others. But such acts must be professional. I believe you can attest to a lot of improvement with people working extra hours in the night. Unless you are one of those who always demand 100% of everything.

Am really hurt by the poor workmanship at the Banana Buspark. The work which had looked perfect on completion could not sustain the weight of the buses the very first day they were allowed to enter the Buspark. The ground started to sink wherever the wheels passed. It showed either poor compacting or poor quality of materials used underneath. I blamed the contractor and the engineer. They are back to redo the work again.
However, my greatest bitterness came from a comment from one of the aspiring candidates for an MCA, who intimated that the poor work was as a result of the current MCA being given kickback and therefore the contractor had not enough money to do a good work. Although I gave him a piece of my mind, I wish to make this issue public.
That I have offered this particular candidate, and indeed anybody else, who would be interested, an amount of Ksh, 100,000/= as a reward if they come up with a single instant where I have ever taken a bribe to corrupt a service am supposed to offer, shared in any loot involving public funds in any way, received a kickback from a contractor, or any other person ever in my life or as an MCA.
Infact I had initially offered him Ksh. 50,000/= but I decided to help him do a thorough professional investigation which might require some money and I therefore added another 50,000/=.
I admit being corrupt is like the normal way in Kenya, and not being corrupt is a temptation you even need to pray to overcome but I have vowed to remain extraordinary.
Even before I was elected, I knew what corruption had done to our country, the suffering millions of people go through, the deaths, starvation and poor services, rampant unemployment and all the injustices brought about by corruption.
I made a covenant with my God that I shall never involve myself in it. Though it comes with challenges, such as being regarded as foolish, primitive, and out of touch with reality, it requires prayers and a strong heart to tell a bribe giver you are not interested in the million shillings he is offering.
One day a friend attempted to punch me, because of the foolishness I portrayed by refusing to take what he was salivating for. But the good thing about it is that, I can show and take pride of the results of being anti-corrupt to myself and to my Karuri people and the projects I undertake for them.
One day, soon, I will write a book, and it shall really be interesting.

A week of Huge Blessings and teachings. The visit by the Holy Father Pope Francis was full of vital lessons, biggest among them the virtue of Humility. Dispite of His Global status, he saw it fit to drive in a small car in total contrast to the big menacing Vehicles that escorted him. His choice to perfom mass in Kangemi is another telling event that the poor and down troden have a place in God's kingdoms. If only we Kenyans can agree to emulate him.

The Cash Crunch Kenya is facing is real. No doubt about it. But if only people would get their fingers off the public coffers, we would not only be out of the quagmire in no time but Kenya can shoot like a meteor to become a first world country in less than 3 yrs.

It wont help at all by stopping and postponing the ongoing KCSE exams as some people are suggesting due to the leakages reported. Such a move who bring massive disorientation to the majority of the faithful n innocent students who had programmed their minds to sit the exam and get it over with now. The gova should rush and stop any further leakages and let the remaining papers continue as scheduled. Telling a student to come back in January to sit the exam can b counter productive n may result to massive under-performance.

Just worried about our education system. Not many years away, when reality shall dawn on Kenyans, we shall regret why we took the lives of our children for granted. We hav decided to pump them with books, (never mind the pile of topics that will never b of help to them ever in their lives) but they wake up at 5am n books continue up to 10pm in the night from monday to saturday. No time to play, socialize or learn to live. I look at my little son, dozing and with a mountain of homework in front of him as he insist he must attend the saturday classes because it has been declared compulsory and i just helplessly sympathize with him. Am very bitter with the minister for education, who just yap and bark about banned tuition knowing very well that he is talking to the birds. Holled in his luxurious office, he never comes out to check what is happening. And our children continue to waste away, because after school they will never make tail or head of life. Our president should wake this minister up and use the illicit brew strategy. It worked.

Feelin exhausted. Spent the day at Kimuga on Karen road. I wish to thank the residents of this road for agreeing to widen it before we start its rehabilitation. I intend to make the road one of the classic examples of a good road. I have done the same to Muthurwa-Goldathi road and they are now enjoying two way traffic. The Ngungugu-Tiikaya road residents are busy removing encroached fences to help widening theirs. Am so proud of the cooperation I recieve from all residents. Am commited to making Karuri Ward a real shining example in road networks which will open it to real business and development.
