Honoured to grace the Annual National Conference of Economists (ANCE) 2026, hosted by the Economics Society of Kenya, as a Guest Speaker to reflect on the Role of Youth in Shaping Kenya Beyond Vision 2030.

As Kenya looks towards 2060, the Government is focused on placing young people at the centre of economic transformation by equipping them with relevant skills, expanding productive opportunities, advancing innovation and technology, and unlocking the potential of the creative economy.

Young people must be empowered not only to seek employment, but also to create enterprises, innovate, participate in value chains and create opportunities for others.

The Kenya we envision for 2060 will be shaped by the investments we make in our young people today. It will require partnerships that bring together the experience of those who have come before us with the energy, creativity and ambition of our younger generation.

On this World Teachers Day, we join to celebrate the primary architects of our society, those who anchor our intellectual and moral progress, shape our future and that of our nation.

As Henry Adams noted, ''A teacher affects eternity; s/he can never tell where his influence stops.'' Our teachers breathe life into that truth every single day.

I made an impromptu visit to Kibaoni Comprehensive School, Kilifi North constituency earlier today to commemorate this special day with the teaching fraternity.

Having started my higher education academic journey pursuing a degree in Education and having walked the path of a classroom teacher myself prior to that, even though briefly, I share a profound connection with this noble profession.

We shared meaningful discussions and I encouraged them to press forward with their noble calling of shaping the minds of our learners, who represent the future generations of our republic. I also took the opportunity to congratulate them on the school's commendable performance in recent Grade 9 results.

I further conveyed a message of goodwill from the Government of Kenya, led by H.E. President William Samoei Ruto. I insisted upon the steadfast commitment by the Fifth administration in improving teachers' welfare, including working environment, enhancements to remuneration, promotions and the continuous recruitment to improve student-to-teacher ratios given the unique needs that the Competency Based Curriculum brings forth.

Paragraph 133 of Sessional Paper No. 10 of 1965 institutionalized economic imbalances that laid the foundation for the marginalization and historical injustices experienced by the Coast and other regions.

In contrast to the four successive administrations, the Fifth Administration under H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto has taken deliberate steps to address these historical disparities by promoting equitable representation in State appointments, accelerating land titling, ensuring a fair share of national resources and expanding development across the Coast region.

This is a trajectory we must deliberately sustain and build upon to ensure that the Coast region achieves equitable development and realizes its full potential.

A journey of faith and prayer ended in profound sorrow following the loss of 17 pilgrims in a tragic road accident at Salama, Makueni County, as they travelled to the Subukia National Shrine for the National Prayer Day.

My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, the St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church community in Mikindani Parish, and everyone affected by this painful loss.

May God comfort and strengthen the families during this difficult time and grant eternal rest to the departed souls.

May they rest in eternal peace.

Thank you, H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, for ensuring that the Coast region continues to benefit from your administration’s development agenda.

In Galole, Tana River, I accompanied H.E. the President for the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity Project and the foundation stone-laying ceremonies for Bura Faya TVC and the Garsen Community Sports Ground in Minjila.

Over the past one week, we have witnessed significant development across the Coast, from roads and title deeds to youth and women empowerment, affordable housing, hostels and modern markets.

The Coast remains an active partner in the administration’s development agenda, and we look forward to continued collaboration in driving transformation and improving the lives of our people.

The long-standing land question at the Coast is finally receiving sustained and decisive attention under the leadership of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, with the Government taking concrete steps to secure land rights and address historical injustices.

Over the past six days, 300,000 title deeds have been issued across the Coastal counties, a major step towards securing land tenure, protecting families from the uncertainty of eviction and giving them confidence to invest in their land.

Honoured to accompany His Excellency the President during his Day 6 working tour of Coast region in Garsen, where he presided over the issuance of 4,500 title deeds to Tana River County residents.
