The best policies are those that respond to the realities of people’s lives. During the day 2 validation of the 𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗕 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, our focus remained firmly on building childcare systems that work for children, families and caregivers.

For Kisumu County, strengthening childcare is also about empowering women, supporting working families and recognising care as an essential part of our social and economic development.

When we invest in the earliest years of a child’s life, we are investing in healthier families, stronger communities and a more equitable future.

Today, I had the privilege of joining County Executive Committee Members and stakeholders from the Lake Region Economic Bloc member counties for a two-day validation meeting of the model 𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗕 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 at the Imperial Sarova Hotel, Kisumu.

Developed by the LREB Secretariat in partnership with Strathmore University, the framework seeks to establish a common regional approach without fiscal strain while promoting quality, affordable, inclusive, safe and developmentally appropriate childcare, with particular focus on children aged 0–3 years.

The discussions provided an important opportunity for counties to reflect on how we can strengthen childcare systems, support families and ease the burden of unpaid care, particularly for women, while ensuring that our youngest children receive the care and support they need to thrive.

As Kisumu County, we remain committed to working with partners and fellow LREB counties to advance policies that strengthen families, empower women and secure a better foundation for our children.

Happy September! A new month is a reminder that every day brings another opportunity to begin again, rise above yesterday and move closer to the future we desire.

May September give us the strength to keep believing, the courage to pursue our dreams and the wisdom to turn every challenge into an opportunity for growth.

Faith becomes even more meaningful when it inspires us to come together in service of God.

Today, i joined the Nomiya Church Fraternity for a Major Harambee held at Kasagam Secondary School Grounds in Kisumu Town, in support of the construction of the Nomiya Church Headquarters at Oboch Asembo, Rarieda Sub-County.

When we come together in faith, generosity and a shared sense of purpose, we have the power to build stronger communities and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Every child carries a dream, and with the right guidance and opportunity, that dream can become reality.

Our outreach and mentorship programme took us to Kibigori School in Chemelil Tamu Ward, Muhoroni Sub-County, where I engaged with learners, parents and the school leadership on education, mentorship and the future of our young people.

The visit was especially meaningful as I reconnected with the school principal, who was once my teacher at Nyakach Girls. It was a powerful reminder of the lasting impact teachers have in shaping lives.

I encouraged the learners to believe in themselves, remain focused and pursue their dreams with determination.

Empowerment is about breaking barriers, opening doors and ensuring that talent, skills and determination are met with opportunity.

As a department, in partnership with the Kisumu County Sector Working Groups, we are committed to creating opportunities through our gender programmes and youth initiatives that enable women and young people to discover their potential, build confidence and shape their own futures.

I believe that when we invest in our people, we strengthen our communities and create a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
