The news that an Ebola quarantine facility for Americans could be built in Laikipia left many Kenyans scratching their heads and reaching for their sense of humor. People joked that America has 50 states, thousands of hospitals, and some of the world's biggest medical facilities, yet somehow the quarantine decided to book a one-way ticket to Kenya. One Kenyan comedian joked, "When we apply for a visa, we're told to prove we have enough money, a return ticket, and a reason to visit America. But when America needs a quarantine center, suddenly Kenya is the chosen destination!" Others wondered whether Laikipia's wildlife had been consulted, saying, "The elephants came here for conservation, not international quarantine diplomacy." Another joked that if the facility must be built, then every American arriving should at least bring a suitcase full of dollars to boost the local economy. As the debate continued, many Kenyans laughed and said they warmly welcome tourists, investors, and visitors, but being asked to host an Ebola quarantine for another country was a surprise nobody saw coming. The common question remained: "Out of all the places in America, how did Laikipia become the backup plan?" 😂🤣
